Prison beatings have been taking place in building 5 of Bang Kwang prison, where shackled prisoners condemned to death are held. Prisoners inform us that on the evenings of 29th, 30th May, over 100 police and military, the most aggressive masked and dressed in black, entered the prison and beat and kicked shackled prisoners. They searched for illegitimate objects and beat to death one prisoner behind whose sleeping place was found a smuggled phone. Other prisoners were kicked and beaten at random. One is severely injured with a fractured skull. Next day the new governor of the prison warned prisoners that news of these attacks should not be spread outside the prison. However, on the next visiting day for prisoners, a prison warder asked prisoners to inform their relatives and asked them to lodge appeal against such treatment. Who authorized such an incursion, and who are the 'black aggressors'? This violence against defenseless and vulnerable prisoner is abominable. Similar attacks are recorded in other Thai prisons
