  • Test Page | a place to test the forum system

If okay with 'The powers that be' this thread can be used by members to practice their skills to upload photos, videos, gifs, url's or try out any other setting/option of this forum...

I'll start. Seems like there's a difference in 'full size' when an identical file is uploaded in different formats, so this is me checking....

    Test-strip-1000-x-100-px.jpg

Original is Adobe Illustrator file, size: 1000 x 100 px > Save for web > .jpeg format, 100%, 18.1 kb > Basic uploader > double click thumbnail > Image settings > alignment: left, size: full size.

    Test-strip-1000-x-100-px.jpg

Original is Adobe Illustrator file, size: 1000 x 100 px > Save for web > .png format, 100%, 5.7 kb > Basic uploader > double click thumbnail > Image settings > alignment: left, size: full size.

So there is difference .png looks about 40% smaller... strange.

good idea for a test page .

re the sizes above , to be expected just look at the difference in the file sizes :

    .jpeg format, 100%, 18.1 kb

    .png format, 100%, 5.7 kb

yes they are both tiny files BUT one is still 3 times the size of the other .

expect the answer to your conundrum may be found in googling .jpeg v's .png

Nah, the difference in appearance has nothing to do with file sizes, all with the way the forum system (via Basic Uploader) handles different file formats . A file saved the size of 1000 x 100 pixels should be just that; 1000 x 100 pixels no matter what format it is saved in.

No complaint here, just noticed a few days ago while uploading more than 1 image in the same reply (all 800 px wide but mix of .jpg and .png) they showed up at different widths when settings were the same. Hence the test... I'll do it again with a few more formats:

Can't upload the .eps format (958 kb and file format not allowed) and the .pdf format (288 kb and file format exceeds limit)

Again, no 'plobhlems' here, just testin', 1,2...1,2,3

Testing gif animation speeds. Sorry for the overload of ampersands... All gif's 250 x 250 pixels, file size 35 kb each.

            First 12 ampersands | 2 sec.gif.jpg First 12 ampersands | 2 sec.gif.jpg First 12 ampersands | 2 sec.gif.jpg First 12 ampersands | 2 sec.gif.jpg First 12 ampersands | 2 sec.gif.jpg First 12 ampersands | 2 sec.gif.jpg

            From left to right: 2 seconds | 0.1 second | 5 seconds | 1 second | 0.5 second | 10 seconds

Update: Hmmm.... Gif's not doing much.

Excactly.... and all the same 2 second version. And to make it even stranger, they're all .gif's on my desktop (see screenshot) and working as gifs in Quickview and Preview. Same working gifs when I drop 'm in a new page on my browser. While uploading (and not in a logic ascending order), I did upload them again, carefully noting what I was doing. I'm stupid enough to make a mistake once, but twice no.... I think there's dark forces here at work, or Admin pushed the button 'Scramble/**** up/Delete common logic/Distort image uploading' next to my name.

                Screenshot-ampersand-gifs-desktop.png

                I'll get there...

Been doing all my posts here with smart phone. Pics, vids et al are near impossible. Time to get on the PC for serious posting.

Might be tasty but it's time to buy a better camera, improve your 'steady shot' skills, drink less or learn how to use Photoshop, sir....

Aside from having to put this message in works just fine.
