My gf is always being asked to get me to teach English to the kids in the village. I would do it for free to help the kids out. Some of the other farangs in the moobahn said it is an offense you can be arrested for in Thailand, but ee rarely see a Thai cop out here. To help kids learn for free? Really? What is wrong with this country? It is not like I would be taking work away from a Thai. There are not any decent English speaking Thais in Isaarn.

Free or not, you need a work permit to conduct such activities in Thailand. The BIB will not appreciate your charitable instruction as it does not benefit them monetarily.

      Idiotic nonsense.

Yes, technically one needs a "work permit", so have a chat with a local police guy or village official beforehand. I've been helping out on school events for years, no trouble whatsoever.

You can do it. But you leave yourself very, very open if some one wants to give you a problem. Formally you do need a work permit for any work, paid or unpaid. Secondly, kids in and out of the house can be a problem if someone wants to make it so.

Western cultural conditioning doesn't transplant to rural Thai village life.

Of course it's nonsense coming from those who tend to be a little uptight about these things -

I've known quite a few Farang doing just this for years all over, without issue or problems.
