  • Thailand Clean Toilet Campaign Launched

    http://www.nationmultimedia.com/nati...-30185811.html

Toilets at CentralWorld shopping complex, Suan Luang Rama IX Park and 20 other places in the country have been given Outstanding Toilet Awards for 2011.

Other toilets to get a nod included those at Bang Chak, Piyabut and Tawarawadee Schools, Ayutthaya Polytechnic and Surin Vocational Colleges, Wat Sa Kaeo, Wat Makutkasattriyaram, Uthai Hospital, Ban Phai Khwang Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, Khuan Phasuk Tambon Health Promotion Hospital, Muang Kranuan municipal market, Khamkhuenkaeo Petroleum Ltd, Na Cha-ang and Nakhon Sawan railway stations, Prasart Thong restaurant, Suan Rimkhao restaurant, Banrai Cowboy restaurant, Nong Luang Tambon Administrative Organisation, Konsarn District Public Health Office and Chumphon Provincial Public Health Office.

Deputy Public Health Minister Surawit Khonsomboon said the outstanding toilets had achieved satisfactory scores when assessed according to health, accessibility and safety criteria. Around 55 per cent of public toilets have met the criteria since the health ministry created the award in 2005. A total of 159 public toilets across the country have been honoured as good examples.

The Cabinet agreed to issue ministerial regulations stating that toilets at restaurants and petrol stations must be hygienic; these rules took effect in May.

Bus and Train Station toilets to be free

    http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2013/08/2...oilets-be-free

The Ministry of Tansportation has ordered all toilets at train and bus stations to be made free of charge.

Previously riders were asked to pay THB3-5 to use the toilets..

The man to thank for this development is Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt, who on Monday said he thought they should be free services.

State Railway of Thailand (SRT) governor Prapat Chongsanguan said his enterprise had contractors clean and maintain toilets at train stations and allowed them to collect charges in return.

The free service policy would prompt the SRT to seek a government budget to manage the toilets, he said.

Wutthichart Kalayanamit, managing director of Transport Co, which operates inter-provincial buses, said his state enterprise was ready to follow the minister's instructions but would first have to study the details of contracts with its toilet operators.

Mr Chadchart said the free bus and rail routes would be changed to better serve low-income earners, the Bangkok Post reported.

The stinky poo is woven deeply within the Thai culture.
A simple flush from a self-appointed dictator won't cleanse anything.

Officials will hold a nationwide cleaning of restrooms in bus terminals, train stations, and ferry ports on 4 July
Noted. They'll still stink like a Thai bus station shitter in the morning.

A few months ago I had to spend some time in a Thai hospital. Plastered around the outside of the toilets where numerous signs telling you to wash your hands using soap and water. The same above the urinals and at the sinks. Unfortunately not only no soap, but and no towels but no water. Mrs said same in the Ladies. Still as the old saying goes it is the thought that counts.

A clean toilet will never be free when you're dealing with pigs. Most Thais are rural simpletons and either just go in for a piss, or go in to take a shower. Like their driving, what's left in their wake is not their problem -- it's somebody else's. Selfish pigs. Urban dwellers are marginally better. Thais are, as a population, uncivilized. Small pockets of civility exist. But they're not frequent.

Can't disagree, but who have been their role models this last 40years?
