To celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, Thailand is hosting an ASEAN International Fleet Review 2017 for the first time on 20 November.

The fleet review will boast 40 warships, including 14 Royal Thai Navy (RTN) vessels and 26 ships from 18 other countries. These ships will be accompanied by 21 aircraft, of which 12 will be from the RTN and nine from the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF).

The RTN is hosting this review that will feature warships from ASEAN member navies as well as invited non-ASEAN nations. The activities will be conducted in and around Pattaya Bay in Chonburi Province.

The celebrations will also include the1st ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise, where RTN and ASEAN navy participants will practise using standard operating procedures. In a demonstration of naval operations by the RTN, there will be a supporting air operation by the RTAF.

Meanwhile, the 11th ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting will be held at the Dusit Thani Pattaya Hotel from 18-19 November.

There will also be a city parade by personnel from the RTN and ASEAN navies along Pattaya’s beach road on 19 November, and Air Race 1 World Cup Thailand 2017 at U-Tapao International Airport.

This celebration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN’s establishment is designed to enhance cooperation between the RTN and ASEAN members, as well as stimulating the local economy.
