  • Bamboo growing

So I started about 18 months ago.
They didn't look like much, forgive the crappy light.

    And today!

Those two are called Pai Kim Sung, a runner variety which produces nice edible shoots.

This one is a variety from southern China called Sericius. Excellent for construction beautiful furniture and edible shoots.

    today

This next one is the largest specie of bamboo; Giganticus, also from southern China. Will produce 30cm diameter culms and grow up to 200 feet tall. Also excellent for construction, big beams and such. Supposedly pound for pound stronger than steel!

I didn't think he would make it, but today!

    Looking pretty dang healthy now!

All told over the past year I've replanted poorly performing oil palm about 40-50 rai with different exotic specie bamboo.
I'm figuring the demand for nice aesthetically pleasing building materials will be increasing as people learn to hate their concrete houses.

Not sure what you mean? I never made reference to KT or TV just to this thread about bamboo.
But they've taken extreme measures to block my IP which i haven't seen before.
And for nothing more than linking the picture thread here!

An odd business venture, considering bamboo grows almost everywhere and can be had for free.

Not all species of bamboo are the same. Seems very few people actually pay attention.

From bamboo bikes to renewables: the leaders that understand sustainability

Faced with unprecedented challenges, these three leaders of tomorrow see sustainability as a core part of running a business

The business leaders of tomorrow will be responsible for tackling huge challenges, from climate change to growing inequality. Aware of the dangers these issues pose if they are not faced head on, these three leaders see sustainability as a fundamental pillar of good business. From building bamboo bikes to makingCoca-Cola more sustainable, they hope to improve on the world their parents are leaving behind.

Bernice Dapaah.Photograph: Bernice DapaahBernice Dapaah has ridden an unlikely path to success. In Ghana, a country beset with traffic congestion and a stark urban-rural divide, Dapaah settled on making bicycle frames out of bamboo as a route to promoting sustainable development.
The idea was to help rural people gain access to local and international markets with their finished products. The project has since created direct employment for 10 farmers and 20 bamboo bike assemblers, who are paid more than most other Ghanaians. These 30 people support households with an average of five members. In addition, 25 rural women and disabled people in two other communities, who would otherwise be out of a job or below the poverty line, have been taught to make the bamboo bike frames and now form part of the supply chain. As well as supplying foreign markets, the bikes are an affordable transport option for local people including farmers, health workers and school children.

That Will Dawson character has the look of a child molester or a serial killer psychopath about him.

                      Nice, Earl....

f left up to me, I'd encircle the earth with bamboo - as there are thousands of varieties that easily adopt to every climate - tropical, temperate, alpine.
