Doing the structural house build seems to be relatively cheap compared to many western countries. However I have been in Homepro a few times and was staggered at the price of krapers fridges sinks etc seemed much more expensive than Nortth America. Am I in the wrong store for a deal or is how it is?

The OP is correct. Quality fixtures are what make the house-build skyrocket.
Digging holes and erecting columns is nothing. Walls and ceilings are nominal. The real cost comes in the kitchens/s bathrooms, doors/windows.
Don't forget the stuff that comes after the build, but which is as important as windows and walls: curtains, blinds, exhaust fans, landscaping, mailbox, garbage cans, lawn/garden equipment, water treatment ... these million small potatoes in aggregate will make you harken back for the good old (cheap) days of concrete and pillars.
Price some very average kitchen appliances (stove, oven, exhaust fan, granite countertops) and you'll wish you were back in farangland.
And my best bit of advice: Never hire a dumb**** country Thai idiot who has never taken a proper (ha!) bath in a proper bathtub to install your bathtub. They don't get it.Last edited by Texpat; 01-12-2015, 08:41 PM.

I'm a proper gentleman -- don't get my hands dirty.
But I know when a bathtub has been fckud up beyond all recognition by an ignorant monkey bricklayer who admits he takes showers under the piss stream of elephants.
It's at that point I call in the GC and tell him to make it right.
