Ex-Top Gear presenters Richard Hammond and James May have sold a dozen classic motorcycles at auction in the UK for NZ$154,500,
The duo, out of work since the show's other presenter Jeremy Clarkson was sacked by the BBC and show was axed, were in a jovial mood at the Bonhams auction in Stafford and joked they were only present to sell, not buy, because they were both unemployed.
One of the auctioneers joined in, quipping "We all know why these are being sold" but the truth is the pair had decided to sell the motorcycles before the BBC axed Top Gear after Clarkson assaulted one of the show's producers.

Before the sale, May had joked: "Just because I'm unemployed now doesn't mean I have to get rid of everything. I was going to sell these bikes anyway. And those paintings, and my collection of Scalextric cars. Honest".

Hammond added: "As a serious collector of motorcycles, it's important to review one's stable regularly, and the Bonhams Stafford sale is the ideal opportunity to move bikes on and possibly acquire new ones. I also have a canoe, and some Wharfedale hi-fi speakers, if anyone's interested".
Of the 12 bikes sold by the duo, Hammond's 2010 Norton Commando 961SE realised the top price of NZ$30,334 while his 1970 Triton 500cc 'Cafe Racer' went for NZ$21,831 while May's highest sale was NZ$20,682 for a 2010 Yamaha SR400 'Grievous Angel' by Deus Ex Machina.
