  • Russell Crowe visits Thailand sparking joy; thoughtful reflections from Thai netizens

Hollywood actor and aspiring rock star Russell Crowe is making waves on Thai social media as the first major celebrity to visit the country after two years of pandemic blues.

Crowe, who is in town to shoot The Greatest Beer Run Ever, a Vietnam War Movie, has been traveling through Thailand and posting pictures on his official Twitter Page.

The phrase “Welcome to Thailand” went viral on Wednesday morning as Thais eagerly welcomed the celebrity actor and his exploits. Some also used the opportunity to critique the country following some funny posts from the celebrity.

One tweet from the Gladiator actor caught the eye of Thai netizens who used it as a catalyst to offer social commentary.

Some remarked on how the wires have been in place for nearly 10 years without the government working to remedy the situation before using the phrase Welcome to Thailand sarcastically.

The sentiment was echoed elsewhere.: https://www.thaienquirer.com/33983/r...thai-netizens/

    “Wires” ??

Actually quite brave of Russell to be hoping around, he’s vulnerable to the pandemic when you consider his age.
I visited TC a few times as a guest but had to stop. It is a sickening place. - Aging One

I hope the farang and his crew were quarantined and aren't spreading the deadly virus amongst the unsuspecting Thai citizens.

Russell Crowe tastes Jay Fai's cuisine

Oscar winner Russell Crowe has finally met the Michelin Star winner, in another episode of his visit to Bangkok.

Russell Crowe posted photos of himself at the restaurant of Jay Fai on @russellcrowe instragram "Lost in Bangkok #5". Jay Fai countered with a picture of the two on her @jayfaibangkok Instagram with a message: "Found in Bangkok #5."

The Hollywood star did not say what he ordered during his stop on Wednesday, but Jay Fai's signature dishes include crab omelette, drunken noodles and tom yum.

"What did he order? I really want to know!," taddaa1980 wrote on Jay Fai's Instagram.

Jay Fai, whose real name is Supinya Junsuta, earned a one-star Michelin rating in 2017. Crowe has won three Oscars for best actor, including for the blockbuster movie Gladiator in 2000, and other awards.

Popular Bangkok Post columnist Roger Crutchley praised Jay Fai in his column the year she earned her star, but offered advice to diners.

"It was also encouraging to see there was a nod of appreciation for Thai street food with Jay Fai being awarded a star, but don’t expect friendly street food prices at that establishment." he wrote. (continues below)

Jay Fai's food shop was among the many victims of the third spike of the Covid-19 pandemic. She was forced to briefly close the restaurant in April after a customer there tested positive for the virus.
