Just go home and make another one

Family of murdered Hannah Witheridge claim Thai authorities told them:

The family of murdered British tourist Hannah Witheridge claim Thai authorities told them to "just go home and make another one" after her death.

Miss Witheridge, 23, from Norfolk, was raped and brutally murdered on a beach on the island of Koh Tao in September 2014.

She died alongside fellow tourist David Miller, 24, who had been hit over the head and left to drown in the sea.

Laura Witheridge, Hannah's sister, has written a powerful Facebook post, accusing Thai officials of making a series of hurtful comments to her family during the investigation and subsequent trial.

She also claims to have received death threats and disturbing crime scene photographs.

      David Miller was also killed.

Miss Witheridge said her post was designed to dispel people's view of Thailand as "the most beautiful place in the world".

She also expressed concerns about "many more suspicious deaths" on the island since her sister's murder.

"You probably haven't heard of them all, as not all were British nationals. The deaths, where possible, are covered up as suicides and accidents," she alleged.

"This would have happened with Hannah, if it had not been for the hideous brutality of her passing."

Bar workers Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo, also known as Win Zaw Htun, were found guilty of their murders last month but are challenging the verdict.

Hannah Witheridge, 23, from Norfolk, was found on Sairee beach on Koh Tao island alongside 24-year-old David Miller, from Jersey, in September 2014. Witheridge had been raped and bludgeoned to death and Miller had been attacked and left to drown in the surf, Thai police say.

The Burmese migrant workers Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo were sentenced to death for the crime on 24 December, a move widely condemned by human rights groups who said migrants in Thailand had been used as scapegoats for crimes in the past.

                    Thai murder appeal?
were found guilty of two counts of murder on Christmas Eve after they attacked and killed Mr Miller (24) and Norfolk-born Hannah Witheridge (23) on the island of Koh Tao on 15 September 2014. They were both also convicted of raping Miss Witheridge.

The men were sentenced to death for their crimes by the Koh Samui Court.

After the sentencing, defence lawyers and activists vowed to fight the decision and said they intended to lodge an appeal within the 30-day deadline, which expired on Saturday 23 January. They now have until Wednesday 24 February to appeal against the verdict.

The appeal deadline for two Burmese migrant workers on death row has been extended by one month, according to counsel for the pair.

A Koh Samui court handed down a death sentence to Win Zaw Htun and Zaw Linn, accused of the violent murder and rape of two British holiday makers on the tourist island of Koh Tao.

The Thai legal defence team requested the postponement, claiming they have not yet completed their appeal preparations.

Andy Hall, a migrant rights advisor to the defence, told DVB

C4 to air secret footage of Koh Tao murderers
                                April 20, 2016

The Koh Tao murderers have appealed against their convictions

SECRET interviews with two men convicted of murdering a Jersey backpacker and a woman from Norfolk on the Thai island of Koh Tao in 2014 will be aired on British television for the first time tonight.

A Channel 4 documentary called Murder in Paradise, which tells the story of the police investigation and controversies surrounding the deaths of former Victoria College student David Miller (24) and Hannah Witheridge (23), will be shown at 10 pm.

Footage included in the documentary shows Burmese migrants Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo, who were found guilty of murder and rape last Christmas Eve, protesting their innocence during an undercover interview in prison in which they are heard telling two men in Burmese how they were threatened with torture unless they admitted to the killings of Miss Witheridge and Mr Miller.

The hour-long documentary, which has been put together by film-makers MAKE Productions, includes interviews with investigating officers and families of other Britons who have died on the popular tourist Island.
