Not a foreigner from a third world or developing country. Of course there might be a benefit for those individuals.

I just don’t see the long-term monetary benefit for teaching in Thailand.

I know one yank who has taught here in Thailand for over 25 years. He arrived in Bangkok when he was 20 and has never left. He isn't degreed, but the students and school staff think he's the bees knees, so he's never been unemployed. He even worked at a hi-so international school in Bangkok, where every one else had to have a teaching degree and more. No TELFer's allowed. He has pretty much always made $3000 to $4000 a month teaching at Thai schools. For the last 8 years, he has taught at his house Lat Phrao and done some corporate work. He teaches cop's kids, the kids of the immigration officer's from where he has gone to for years to renew his Thai wife visa, Thai business owner's kids and more. No work permit, no school licensed by Thailand's ministry of education, just in his house in the moo bahn. He has saved something like $250,000 since he arrived here. He has done some day trading and Thai stock market trading with relative success. Him and his Thai wife live in about a 5 million baht home which is financed in her name.

Is there any long-term monetary benefit for a foreigner teaching in Thailand? For this bloke, ya...

He had to be vetted to invest with our brokerage firm, We have strict personal asset policies and I reviewed his financial disclosure statements. That included his Thai and US bank accounts, liquidity etc, I have also been at his home and seen his students learning.

Seriously? Some company is going to vet you for letting them manage your money.

Over the years I have had money in at least 4 different large firms here in the states (settled with 2). Not a one has ever requested a background check on me. In fact it has been me who will ask questions and do research on them before I’ll let them handle my money.

You must be a casual investor Landreth. Our firm will not take on a client unless their network is $250k.

I pay less than ½ of 1% in fees. Figure it out

These days, there is basic Due Diligence before any respectable asset manager will accept your money. It's all to do with the money laundering laws, which as a fiduciary you certainly do not want to get on the wrong side of.

Just a little background history I had to provide them with and they checked on it.
