I just did a two day trip with a pal on the our motorcycles. If you've never been there are plenty of war museums and memorials. Hell fire pass is worth a trip and their are plenty of falls to see. By bike is best for me as I'm impulsive and like to take a chance but you have to be cautious of the nutters in cars, buses and trucks. As for bars I'm not a drinker but when I do go out on the odd occasion I do like a drink. Met a decent bunch of folk from Germans to Americans with plenty of stories to tell at the 'Aussie Rules Bar' Decent pizza shop opposite as well!

I don't know, personally- Capt Sensible had already done the TD flounce before I became active there.

I'd definitely organise some wheels, to get the best of it.

Why are you going to Kanchanaburi for six weeks?
Work?
The Erawan waterfall is worth a visit and there'a an elephant sanctuary which I could dig up on the internet if you're interested.
A few caves to explore and you can hire a canoe for a day (no, not in the caves).
You are going to need transport. Will you have access to a car or bike?

You can also take a train over the Bridge over the River Kwai (known as the death railway). This is what I did when I was there.
