At the moment I've got two books going:
A World Of Trouble - A novel in the Jack Shepherd series by Jake Needham. These novels take place mostly in Thailand and are thrillers of sort. I've really enjoyed the series so far. This one concerns the political and other machinations of a Thaksin-like former Thai PM. The action begins in Dubai and moves on to Bangkok and Hong Kong.
Early Thailand - From Prehistory to Sukhothai - I was hoping this would give a general overview of the prehistory and early history of Thailand and the people who came here. It does that, but it turns out to mostly be a history of the archaeology of Thailand. It contains copious information on various digs around the country including minute detail on exactly what was discovered at various sites. IMHO this kind of detail belongs in a scholarly paper or scientific journal, not in a popular history book. I'm wading through it, but it's not easy.
How about you? What's on your nightstand?
