That album, in turn, was the first by The Rolling Stones in eight years.

The Rolling Stones are widely regarded as one of rock's defining acts, producing classic albums such as Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St. and feuding with The Beatles for the crown of Britain's top band.

Richards, known for his hard-living and cantankerous public comments, on Friday releases Crosseyed Heart, his first solo album in 23 years.

The album - featuring Richards, rather than Stones frontman Mick Jagger, on vocals - brings in a range of collaborators including the jazz and blues singer Norah Jones.

I have always been a big Beatles fan and - although I loved their music - considered the Stones 2nd rate. However, after many years, I realized that - IMO - the Rolling Stones were almost as good and their singles are actually probably better than the Beatles, but not their LPs. Another plus about the Stones is that I never played them to death, like I did with the Beatles.

I am reading "Life" by Keith Richards right now and it really is an exceptional autobiography. I also read a biography of Mick Jagger by Marc Spitz recently that was very different in style, but great too.

The beatles were good but let's face it, they were only around a couple of years before they imploded.
I love the stones and I'm particularly a fan of Richards. There's a great youtube clip around of them having a spontaneous session with Muddy Waters in a small club in New York the 70's.
they play with all sorts of people and there are some awesome clips on youtube.
I particularly like their blues classic Fancy man.

              Best albums.

              Exile on Main street.

The Beatles put out some of the best music of our lifetimes for about 7 years and for a few years afterwards as solo artists putting out music written when they were still together. Some of their biggest hits as solo musicians had actually been recorded by the Beatles, but never released.
As to the Stones, I only had one LP as a youngster - Get your YaYas Out. I liked it but not much more than other musicians that I was listening to at the time. My "favorite" Rolling Stones LP was always Her Satanic Majesty's Request. I know it is not rated very high and it does not compare with most of their singles, but I have listened to it often over many years.
When I became an old guy, I bought some "best of" CDs with all their singles and they are fantastic, especially since I didn't wear them out in my youth. Now that I have read Richard's biography, I have to go back and listen to the other LPS as he mentioned a lot of songs that I do not remember hearing. I wonder what I will think of them.

Keith Richards teased that the Rolling Stones are headed back to the recording studio "very shortly" to record new music, following the release of their 2016 blues covers LP, Blue & Lonesome.
