Whatshername and I had a little discussion the other morning. Because we will be or might be limited to our planned overseas (border crossing) trip to Mexico for the 2021 New Year’s holiday we might do a few trips in and around Thailand when we get back if the virus is under some type of control/cleaned up to support the Thai tourist industry. Giving back.

Pattaya might be back on the list of places to visit.
    • Pattaya cleans up after tourist tests positive

There was another “Big Cleaning Day” in Pattaya on Wednesday (March 18), but considerably more serious than the usual litter sweeps of the beach.

As soon as it was reported that a 67-year-old Belgian tourist has been confirmed as infected with the Covid-19 virus, a major scrub was undertaken in the areas he’d visited.

The Belgian man arrived in Thailand on March 3, had drinks in Pattaya, spent the night in a hotel, and then went to stay at his wife’s house in Phetchabun province.

He fell ill on March 10 and went to the private hospital, where the Covid-19 diagnosis was made.

Pattaya’s Public Health and environment officials immediately began sanitising a beer pub on Soi Pattaya 8 where the tourist had drinks, his hotel, Walking Street, the port and a market.

Special attention was paid to ATMs, shop door handles and other surfaces that are frequently touched.

People with whom he may have been in close contact were notified and asked to remain at home for 14 days while being monitored.: https://www.nationthailand.com/news/...ernal_referral

Went in 94 with a tour group, most went straight to a travel agent to book a trip out of the place for the week, I stayed and regretted it. It's a badly planned open air brothel which is fine, but don't pretend otherwise. Since then the traffic is far worse, still no parks or much other than 100's of tacky bars, and these days fat tattooed up whores mostly as dumb as a log of wood.Been back 4 times and unfortunately had to stay the night once, sea stinks, transport is more expensive than bkk and it really only appeals to whore mongers, pedo's and the slightly mentally deranged. Went to all the hyped up places over the years the FLB, winchester club, secrets, devils den etc, all crap holes. The whole place is an embarrassment built on prostitution and now almost a theme park to it and no longer cheap. It''s Butlins for sad old farts and Russians who don't know any better, and the gawking virus people of course.

Well, bud, you are even more clueless and naive than originally thought.

Guess that's a result of being a short-time visitor, but if you are genuinely unaware of the two-tiered price system that exists in the major tourist venues, that is astounding!

It's not bad at all on the Darkside actually. Central Patts, still nowhere near as bad as Phuket and it's Mafia.

Not from reports I get from the boys I know that live in Naklua/Darkside.
Services from air conditioner repairs to vehicle dealership etc. all overcharge the farang.

                      • Tradesmen will overcharge farang if they can get away with it anywhere in the country! It helps to have a diligent wife, and of course check around. Actually, private Hospitals can be some of the worst offenders. But nothing beats the Thai gov't and it's national park policy- dunno about you, but I just boycotted them entirely.
Holy feck, I found out I was being ripped off to buggery in Sydney by the bloke that serviced my Alfa, the prick.

Well can I refer you to the Pink Card thread, mon ami?

No better argument for the Farang to get the most useful ID which balances the playing field.

                            • Pattaya shut down, quiet

PATTAY: All was quiet in the beach city on Tuesday night after the announcement that entertainment venues and other places where people gather in large numbers must close from 8pm-6am because of the risk of spreading the coronavirus disease.

Operators were cooperative, police said. People were not seen gathering on the beaches, where revellers usually get together for drinking sessions.

Along the beach, some restaurants remained open where people could buy food to take home.

Roads were also empty. Few cars were seen moving on them.

The outlook for party-goers remains bleak, with the government set to declare an emergency situation on Thursday, when a night curfew is expected to be imposed.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...hut-down-quiet

                            • Just got a 7 days suspension on TV for calling it a hell hole, they seem to like it for some reason!

                              • Lotsa people do, residents & tourists. If I move back to Los, it would most likely be the darkside. Call it a hellhole all you want- I don't see why that is grounds for you being suspended any more than it matters a feck to those that like the place.
