Very few dive boats go to these dive sites which are south of Koh Samui and off Songkhla province. This boat, the Scuba Explorer repositions between Koh Tao and Phuket twice a year during which they offer special trips to Koh Kra and Losin. It's a great trip because no other dive boats are around. Compare this with the Similan Islands where the dive sites can be crowded with half a dozen or more other dive boats.

The video in this thread:

was taken with a GoPro Hero3 (Silver Edition) "adventure" camera. It's a tiny little thing that fits in a pocket and comes with an underwater housing. However, it has no viewfinder so you have just point and shoot.

I'm 63 and have been diving since 1972. If you're in reasonably good health and comfortable in the water, there is no reason that you couldn't be certified.

I snorkeled with my Thai gf at Koh Larn Island. I got a little freaked out when the mask kept leaking and also could not figure out how to go under water without the snorkel tube filling with water. Of course I had no freaking idea what I was doing.

Obviously you need a mask that doesn't leak. If you take a course you'll learn early on how to clear your mask and how to deal with a snorkel full of water.
None of it is hard. You just need to know the techniques and practice.
