I'll upload my daytrip pics as and when I have a few minutes to kill. I'll return there for a long weekend sometime this month.

    One of many delightful buildings

Parts of it feel genuinely Portuguese.

Yum tapas (although if it is indeed Portuguese it should be pintxos). Did you check it out?
Malaysia- truly Asia. Minus the Filth.

I didn't eat there. Plenty of that sort of thing during my half years in Europe.

I meant the architecture not the food/signage.

Maritime museum inside a replica Portuguese (or Dutch, can't remember) ship.

The architecture is Straits Chinese, same as Georgtown.
I visited TC a few times as a guest but had to stop. It is a sickening place. - Aging One

Georgetown doesn't have the Portuguese influence. Malacca is much older.

                    Nice pics!

What's the distance from KL to Malacca.. and from KL to Penang. Malaysia is high on my list of places to visit fer sure.

I also want to visit Langkawi .. have you been?

1 hour 45 from TBS. Bus cost the equiv of 80 baht. No idea how many miles. I suggest Google Maps, that's what its for.

Yes to Langkawi, on the boat from Satun in Thailand. Five years ago and I think it's developed quite a bit since. It has better beaches than Penang but Penang is better for most other things including transport culture food shopping and connectivity (international airport and bridges to mainland). It's mostly Chinese whereas Langkawi is more Malay.

Don't do that trip non stop. Stop in Ipoh or preferably the Cameron Highlands, which is at the midpoint and worth a few days.

Nearly everyone living and working in the downtown area was Chinese.
