MLB calls off first week of spring training games due to player lockout

Major League Baseball announced in a release on Friday that it would be calling off the first week of spring training games, citing the lack of a collective bargaining agreement with Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA).

MLB announced in early December that it would be imposing a lockout against the league’s players after 26 years of labor peace. Since then, MLB and the players association have met six times, USA Today reported.

MLB will cancel regular season games if no union deal is struck by Monday, source says

Major League Baseball (MLB) has set a Monday deadline to reach a deal on a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the players' union, in order for there to be a typical 162-game season, a source familiar with the situation told CNN. CNN granted the source anonymity to speak about the ongoing negotiations.

MLB is in the midst of its first lockout since the 1994-1995 season.

Members of the players' union Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and the league are currently holding daily face-to-face meetings in Jupiter, Florida, to negotiate a new CBA contract.

MLBPA declined to comment on the record.

Citing the health and safety of the players, the source said MLB needs a minimum of four weeks of Spring Training before the regular season can start.

Marlins Spring training win/loss: 8/7

No way will the Marlins win more than 50% of their games this season. They were awful during Spring Training.

Can only hope they do better than what I think.

Marlins first series of the regular season wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. All three games were close with the Marlins winning only one game.
