I've lived in Thailand, not working. And also Singapore and the Philippines.

For sure, my take-home pay was a shit load more while I was in SG, but its much more satisfying working here in PH.

Even though I'm doing the same job, and even contracted back to the same company that I was in SG, the work/life balance here is so much better. The Filipinos are much more friendly that the Singaporeans. There's way more public holidays here and much more socialising with the people that I work with.
The big difference for me between the PI & Singapore is the food. Well, the chicks too I guess. In Singapore the food is great but the women are all focused on how much money you have and what you drive.

In the PI, the gals are a LOT friendlier but the food is terrible.

Voila! Thailand the obvious answer! Great women and food!
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

Malaysia - better women (non-muslim) and better food than Thailand - not to mention being able to buy a house, take your partner to the west visa free, widespread use of English, etc etc.

Thais don't travel well sometimes. The visa process doesn't help either.

For some bizarre reason they are looked upon unfavourably by some foreign embassies

It's partly down to GDP per capita (it's higher in Malaysia) where very few poor countries get visa free access to the west, but also Thais are well known for abusing immigration privileges. It's also partly down to the commonwealth. There's something reassuring about spending time in a commonwealth country.

              That's not been my experience.

Took my wife everywhere and we had virtually no problems. First time to Paraguay they didn't recognize the Thai passport but it was only a brief discussion there at Immigration in Asuncion. She's never had a problem obtaining visas.

There's plenty of great food in PI. Maybe you have to look a bit harder than in TH.

Educated PI women are much more friendly than the Thai equivalent, and so much easier to communicate with.
Filipinos are much more logical thinkers as well. I've never heard a Filipina say "You not Filippines, you no unerstand!"
Both generally have stupid religious views though.

China - I've been to Hong Kong several times and enjoyed it it but I've zero interest in ever setting foot in the mainland.

Japan - i plan to spend more time there. Have visited twice but only for weeks instead of months, so I've never experienced living there. Will try to do 2-3 months there in the next couple of years.

Korea - I visited a girlfriend there a decade ago and found it fairly dull. No reason to return.

Taiwan - Love it. Wonderful climate, good food, lots to see and do. The only downside is the language, which I've no interest in learning and is my least favorite language to hear.

Vietnam - Cheap, interesting, and is probably a good place for TEFLers. Would like to spend time in the subtropical highland city of Dalat with its year round spring weather. Hopefully will in November. Not looking forward to horns blasting and double pricing.

Laos - A couple of spots I'd like to see, doable in a long weekend. Too primitive to want to stay any longer.

Burma - Will go when it makes itself a bit more accessable.

Cambodia - Have been once. That was enough.

Thailand - Nothing left to see or do after numerous stays totalling several years. My only reason for short stays there in recent years was my wife's work. Now that she's relocated I've no reason or desire to return.

Malaysia - Have spent several months there in the past year and a half. Lots more I want to see. Slightly more developed than Thailand, multiculturalism makes it more interesting IMO, and feels like the perfect hybrid of Thailand and the UK. Would love to buy a retirement house in the Cameron Highlands or Penang but will probably end up in Johor.

Singapore - Somewhere I love and am spending increasing amounts of time for both work and pleasure. Feels a bit claustrophobic due to having to leave the country to find wide open expanses of countryside, but that's easily done by road or air. IMO the most liveable place for westerners in Asia who aren't looking for bargain bucket locations.

Indonesia - Never been. Probably similar to Malaysia but with much less multiculturalism. Bali is on the bucket list but not a priority.

Philippines - Never been. Looks fun but poverty-riddled. Will try to spend a week there sometime, and have been meaning to visit Baguio for years.
Aside from Thailand, you've never been any of those countries.

Sorry TizMe but after choking on a Baalut one time and other PI cuisine I'll stick to aahan Thai, thanks!

what's the problem with PI food? I've heard that it's more westernized than Thai food, but is that a bad thing?

The biggest problem I have with Thai food, especially around BKK, is that so much of it is fried. This is cooking at its laziest. Using cheap shit artery clogging oil just makes it worse.
