  • Spending half of every year doing whatever you want

Not a problem for retirees, except many don't have the health / energy to fully enjoy it.

Back in my early 30s I decided that I'd never work a full time permanent job ever again. I've never regretted that for a second, especially when I see the shitty tedious existences so many middle aged 9-5er career ladder types live.

What things have you done to reject the stereotypical life expected of you by society?

    Less stuff seems key.

The best times I have nowadays are on cycle-touring expeditions.

Where all that is necessary can be carried on the bicycle. Taking about a new brand of freedom, wow!

Once you begin the breakaway from material stuff the mind becomes liberated, freedom is indeed easy!

Less physical stuff is most definitely the answer. Moi never believed in the old saying: "He who has the most toys, wins" Always thought it was a crock. Not to say having a few toys isn't wrong but throughout your earning years, it's a good thing to sock away (invest) your income for a comfortable retirement.

Quite agree with Exexpat there that working only 6 months of the year is the way to go so long as you build that "Pot" for your "Golden Years"
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

It's all about finding a role that pays a high hourly contractor rate then saving half of it each week (plus making some smart longterm investments). Doing minimum wage stuff and living in a tent in the local park for half the year would suck.

I won't face poverty when elderly, but I don't see the point in restricting what I do in my 30s 40s and 50s just so I can afford to do it in my 60s and 70s, if I even make both of those decades. It's not guaranteed.

Ahem...even a sample-catcher working for ExLog earned a respectable salary so enjoy the fruits of your labors.

I can't retire at the age I want, so I'll just do the opposite

I do not slave away working minimum 40+ hour weeks and taking 10 days off per year in the US.

                I stay debt free, 100%.

9/10 of people I grew up with and those in my family are living paycheck to paycheck regardless of educational background or profession.

                No thanks.
