Which is just a completely dumb, pointless and irrelevant comparison since COVID-19 has a higher mortality rate.

Frankly the more ignorant Boomers like you catch it the better. Actually I'd encourage you to continue licking windows!

      • Thailand logs 111 new Covid cases, 3 deaths Wednesday

The government on Wednesday reported 111 new local cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), including 42 returnees from Indonesia, raising the total to 2,369. Three more deaths, all of foreigners, took the accumulated toll to 30.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration, said the 28th death was of a Russian man, 48, who visited Phuket on March 18-21. He fell sick on March 22 and then returned to Pattaya.

After developing a fever of 38.4 degrees Celsius, a cough and a sore throat, he sought treatment at a private hospital in Chon Buri province. The man was not admitted to the hospital and conducted home isolation. He died on Sunday.

The 29th death was of an Indian businessman, 69, who also suffered from diabetes and heart disease. Dr Taweesin said the man fell sick on March 17 and sought treatment at a private hospital in Bangkok.

On March 21 his temperature rose to 39.3 degrees Celsius and he developed a runny nose, muscle pain and diarrhorea. He was admitted to a private hospital on March 29 and treated in an intensive care unit. He died on Tuesday.

The 30th death was of an American man, 69, who suffered from chronic renal disease. He fell sick on March 9 with coughing, muscle pain and breathing difficulties.

The man sought treatment at a hospital in Buri Ram province on March 21. The following day, he suffered from exhaustion and breathing difficulties. He died on Tuesday.

Wednesday's 111 confirmed new cases marked a sharp increase over the 38 recorded on Tuesday. Dr Taweesin said the new local cases included 42 Thai returnees from Indonesia and 37 people who had been in close contact with previous patients, including 18 in Bangkok, seven in Nonthaburi and six in Yala.

Other new cases included four people who worked in crowded areas or closely with foreigners, three visitors to crowded places, two medical workers and two people who returned to Thailand in March. Officials were investigating a further 21 cases.

"The new cases and new deaths were linked with foreigners and people who arrived from other countries, making local cases soar again," Dr Taweesin said.

"The 42 returnees from Indonesia were from one group of people and were tested on Tuesday," he said, referring to Muslims who returned on Monday from religious ceremonies in Indonesia.

"More Thai people will be returning from abroad and we must monitor them closely," Dr Taweesin said.

He also warned Thai people to stay at home as much as possible because 69 of the new cases contracted the disease locally.

Of the 2,369 accumulated patients, 1,223 were in Bangkok, 141 in Nonthaburi, 140 in Phuket, 102 in Samut Prakan, 70 in Chon Buri, 68 in Yala, 55 in Pattani, 47 in Songkhla, 39 in Chiang Mai and 27 in Pathum Thani. Of that total, 888 people have recovered.

Phuket recorded the most patients per 100,000 population -- 33.9 -- followed by 21.6 in Bangkok, 12.7 in Yala and 11.2 in Nonthaburi.

Satun logged its first local cases as 16 returnees from Indonesia tested positive.

Novavax Identifies COVID-19 Vaccine Candidate, Human Testing To Begin In Mid-May

The vaccine candidate is a stable prefusion protein made using Novavax's proprietary nanoparticle technology, according to the company. Novavax said its proprietary Matrix-M adjuvant will be incorporated into the vaccine candidate to enhance its immune response and stimulate high levels of neutralizing antibodies.

            Antibodies Seen After Single Immunization

With NVX-CoV2373, a high level of spike protein-specific antibodies with ACE-2 human receptor binding domain blocking activity and SARS-CoV-2 wild-type virus neutralizing antibodies were observed after a single immunization, Novavax said.

Additionally, high microneutralization titers, which are considered evidence that a vaccine is likely to be protective in humans, increased eight-fold with a second dose, the company said.

"This is strong evidence that the vaccine created by Novavax has the potential to be highly immunogenic in humans which could lead to protection from COVID-19 and helping to control the spread of this disease," Matthew Frieman, associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, said in a statement.: https://www.benzinga.com/general/bio...gin-in-mid-may - https://nypost.com/2020/04/08/novava...ine-candidate/

So far 80 medical officials were infected and formed 3.4% of all local Covid-19 cases. Fifty of them contracted the disease at hospitals, 18 in communities and 12 were under investigation. • 14,000 Thais still stranded abroad

The government is telling thousands of Thais stranded abroad to be patient, because the government must control the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) to protect the majority of the people before they can return home.

Dr Taweesin Visanuyothin, spokesman for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said on Thursday that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had a lengthy discussion with senior officials on the fate of Thais stranded in other countries when the government banned inbound flights.

The government would have to contain the disease and protect more than 60 million people inside the country. Afterwards, prospective returnees could take turns coming back, he said.

"Now, the country must be sealed off to protect over 60 million people in the country and control the disease," Dr Taweesin said.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand banned inbound flights until April 18 because many previous returnees were infected with Covid-19, and posed the risk of spreading the disease to local residents.

Dr Taweesin said that 12,771 Thais had returned and 14,664 others registered to return. He said 5,453 were waiting for return flights, and about 10,000 Thai citizens were in Malaysia waiting to cross the border, which was closed.

The government would have to quarantine all returnees and they would have to take turns, because the facilities could accommodate only 200 returnees a day, Dr Taweesin said.

"Everyone will be welcome, but the queue may be long. For those who can stay abroad without any trouble, please stay there longer. For those who have trouble, the government will offer financial assistance," he said.

The government was figuring out how much financial aid, as there were Thais in overseas countries and others stranded near the border, Dr Taweesin said.

"Those who have accommodation and insurance should stay there longer, because they would otherwise risk contracting the disease while queuing up at border checkpoints or boarding planes," he said.

He said returnees must have fit-to-fly health certificates and may have to undergo rapid tests before boarding planes, like the tests conducted in Indonesia.

The government was considering sending planes to pick up ill Thai people in other countries, Dr Taweesin said.

He said the Defence Ministry had prepared 2,037 rooms for state quarantine and was finding about 1,500 more rooms. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry had prepared 460 facilities for local quarantine for more than 13,000 people.

Dr Taweesin said Bangkok and adjacent provinces needed 80 more beds for intensive care for Covid-19 patients, to cope with the worst-case scenario.

The prime minister told the Public Health Ministry not to construct a new building, but modify existing facilities to increase the number of intensive care units, Dr Taweesin said.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...tranded-abroad

                              • Global coronavirus death toll passes 100,000

The confirmed global death toll from COVID-19 has surpassed 100,000 people, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

The actual toll, however, could be much higher because of a lack of transparency about the data from China and other countries.

In the U.S. alone, more than 475,000 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Nearly 18,000 people in America have died, but the actual death toll may be significantly higher due to testing shortages and the difficulty in confirming cause of death outside of hospitals.: https://thehill.com/policy/healthcar...-passes-100000
