Thai cabinet approves plan to purchase 30 million more doses of Pfizer vaccine
The Thai cabinet today (Tuesday) approved the procurement of an additional 30 million doses of Pfizer’s mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, from Pfizer, by Thailand’s Diseases Control Department.
Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said that the cabinet also authorised the Disease Control Department to sign the third amendment to the Manufacturing and Supply Agreement with Pfizer for vaccine procurement.
He said that the agreement will enable the Disease Control Department to receive the new generation of Pfizer vaccine for children, adding that the 30 million doses of mRNA vaccine are to be delivered to Thailand in lots during the first, second and third quarters of next year.
With the additional doses, Thailand will have procured a total of 60 million doses of Pfizer vaccine, said Thanakorn.
At Government House today, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha formally received one million doses of the Moderna mRNA vaccine, donated by the United States, which arrived in Thailand yesterday.
US Chargé d’affaires, Michael Heath, celebrated the arrival of the vaccine with the prime minister, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and other senior Thai officials at Government House.
On Monday, Heath said the new shipment reaffirms US support of Thailand and determination to stand shoulder-to-shoulder to overcome the global pandemic.
The million doses of Moderna vaccine is the second batch of mRNA vaccine, after 1.5 million Pfizer doses were delivered in July.
Heath added that the US government has provided tens of million dollars in COVID-19 related assistance to Thailand since the outbreak of the pandemic.: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thai-ca...fizer-vaccine/

Covid will stay with us, expert virologist says, advising everyone to get vaccinated
Covid-19 will continue to stay with us and we will have to live with it, expert virologist Dr Yong Poovorawan wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
He said we could not get rid of SARS in 2003 and it became a global pandemic. After that, we tried to create herd immunity to stop it from spreading.
To achieve herd immunity, at least 60 to 70 per cent of the population must be vaccinated.
Yong said the Delta variant spread quickly, causing a new wave.
We knew a vaccine could reduce disease severity, deaths, and patients in hospital. However, it cannot completely eradicate a pandemic so herd immunity in this case cannot entirely prevent the disease from spreading, he wrote.
With influenza, the vaccine also could not prevent infections but it could prevent deaths.: https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40009194

Man dies after Moderna jab following Sinovac
A man died at his home in Muang district late on Tuesday night shortly after receiving a second dose of Covid-19 vaccine, Moderna, following an initial dose of Sinovac in September.
Police were called to house 66/189 at Moo 5, tambon Bang Muang in Muang district about 12.30am, Pol Capt Adithes Phocharoen, a duty investigator, said on Wednesday.
They found Sithipol Bovornkittipaisal, 26, lying dead on the ground floor of the house. There was no sign of physical assault.
Sithipol's mother Sopa Khotpakdi, 50, said her son had recieved the first dose of Sinovac vaccine in early September, but did not say where.
He had also placed an order for Moderna vaccine with Synphaet Theparak Hospital. He went to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon and was inoculated with the Moderna vaccine.
He returned home with no sign of side effects, she said.
However, late on Tuesday night, while playing on his phone on the second floor of the house, Sithipol began experiencing chest pain and breathing difficulties.
Ms Sopa said she called for an emergency team from Paolo Hospital Samutprakarn. While waiting, relatives carried Sithipol, who was by then unconscious, down to the ground floor.
When the medical team arrived they imediately gave him CPR and used a defibrillator on him, but could not revive him. Sithipol was already dead.
Sithipol's body was taken to Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra Hospital for an autopsy to establish whether his death was related to the Covid-19 vaccination.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...lowing-sinovac

More COVID infections found in Bangkok after woman drops dead in alley
Health officials and a mobile COVID-19 testing unit were dispatched to Phahonyothin Soi 54/1, in Bangkok’s Sai Mai, district to test people in the community, after a 30-year-old woman collapsed and died in the middle of a lane on Tuesday. The woman tested positive for the virus at the post-mortem examination.
Health officials urged unvaccinated residents in the neighbourhood to receive free inoculations at Wat Koh Or-ngern today.
The victim’s house, a nearby grocery shop and several other houses were also disinfected today.
Test results of the victim’s four family members show her mother and elder sister are infected, while her father and a seven-year-old child are clear of the virus.
14 of 22 neighbours were tested this morning, with 5, including the grocer, tested positive.
Health officials said that four of the infected are fully inoculated with two AstraZeneca vaccine doses and the fifth has received two Sinopharm doses and third AstraZeneca booster jab.
They also said that the deceased was unvaccinated, while four others in the same family have each received two shots of unspecified vaccines.: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/more-co...dead-in-alley/

Three die after second jabs of Covid vaccines
SAMUT PRAKAN: Funerals for three people who died after receiving the second doses of Covid-19 vaccines were held at the same temple - Wat Nam Daeng in tambon Bang Kaew in Bang Phli district - of this Central province on Saturday.
However, it was not clear whether the three cases were directly related to vaccination against Covid-19.
The first funeral was for Wuthidet Namo, a 15-year-old student, who died at Samut Prakan Hospital on Nov 26.
Juthathip Namo, 46, Wuthidet's guardian, said her nephew received the first jab of Pfizer vaccine at his school on Nov 3. After the inoculation, he became fatigue and gasped for breath. Wuthidet, who weighed 121 kilogrammes, also lost some weight.
On Nov 24, he received the second jab of Pfizer vaccine at the school. On that day, after returning home, he complained about having chest pains and breathing difficulties. She took him to Samut Prakan Hospital. A doctor examined him and let him return home without giving any advice.
Ms Juthathip said she brought Wuthidet back to the hospital on Nov 25 after he again developed the same symptoms. The doctor gave him a shot and told him to go home. But, with continued breathing difficulties, he stayed overnight in the hospital.
On Nov 26, she received a call from the hospital, telling her to rush to the hospital as the boy's condition was deteriorating. When she arrived at the hospital, Wuthidet already died.
The doctors concluded Wuthidet's death was not related to the Covid vaccination and that he died from diabetes, intestine problems, acidity in blood and high sugar content in blood.
Ms Juthathip said she was not certain about the cause of her nephew's death.
The second funeral was for a 26-year-old man identified only as Vachira, a employee of the Isuzu Company in Samut Prakan.
His relatives said he received the first shot of AstraZeneca on Aug 26 and the second one on Nov 12. On Nov 20, he had chest pains with a high fever and was admitted to a hospital, where he died on Nov 26. The doctors said he died from blood infection.
The relatives said they wanted officials concerned to investigate whether Vachira's death resulted from the Covid vaccination.
The third funeral was for a 26-year-old man identified only as Sithipol. He died on Nov 22 after receiving the second jab of Moderna vaccine. The doctors said he died from heart failure. The first Covid jab he received was of sinovac, but the date was not clearly known.
The body was taken to Wat Nam Daeng temple for the funeral on Nov 25.
The relatives suspected Sithipol's death might be from the vaccine.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...covid-vaccines
