...I am informed that canned sardines in tomato sauce need only a little chopped chili to make them palatable with rice...in an emergency...in a god-awful emergency with a bullet...

My preference would be sardines packed in their own oils.

In defence, I'm not into tomato-y[?} things.
        Must be the acidity.

Shoppers queue with trolleys full of supplies during a panic coronavirus buying surge in Bangkok, Thailand, on Sunday (March 15).

The country has seen a surge in Covid-19 case in recent days raising fears of a lock down and food shortages. There have been 114 cases and one death since the outbreak began.

Foods such as instant noodles, sauces and canned food have disappeared from the shelves in many supermarkets as many shoppers seek to plan for shortages. Thai leader General Prayut Chan-o-cha responded to the panic buying by appealing for calm "We are not at a stage where we need to stockpile food," he said.

No need to stockpile foods, say suppliers

People need not build up their stocks of food and consumer products amid the new coronavirus crisis because Thailand is a major producer of these goods, according to the Federation of Thai Industries.

FTI chairman Supant Mongkolsuthree on Monday assured the public that since Thailand is one of the world's major producers of food and consumer goods, supplies would not run short despite the Covid-19 crisis.

"Thai producers have enough capacity to meet domestic demand. Panic-buying of foods is unnecessary, unlike in other countries that do not produce them," he said.

Thailand is a major producer of daily necessities such as rice, instant noodles, canned fish, tissue paper and drinking water and will not run out of such items, Mr Supant said.

"Thai people need not be concerned. I have talked with large manufacturers in the sector. There is not any problem at all. Shortages of consumer goods are temporary because people bought them out of panic," he said.

If people become scared, they buy more than they need instead of watching their spending during a time of economic problems, Mr Supant said.

He said he would bring representatives of consumer product manufacturers to explain their ability to meet demand to the press on Wednesday.
Visit Limlurcha, head of FTI's food industry division, said local food manufacturers were using only 60% of their production capacities and could easily increase output if necessary.

I'll be going grocery shopping tomorrow...A day early, for me, but I am interested to see what's going on...I've heard a lot about it, but I want my own perspective...

Interesting that the first thing to go was the toilet paper, but that's over a week old, now...

Things are getting more serious...And the virus is in the Okanagan Valley now, one case in Kelowna (population around 135,000) and another in Oliver (population 4,000), so I've heard...

Population here in Penticton is around 35,000...Kelowna is about 45 km away...Oliver around 33 km...

                We live in interesting times...
