  • Why do Thai prisoners put up with mass caging?

If prisoners in a sensible country were kept in cages with 50 others, no beds and a hole in the floor to shit in they'd soon riot their way out.

I haven't compared Thai prisons with those in other banana republics but they must be among the worst.

Yes, prison riots are usually successful and end with escapees being free and improved conditions for those who didn't make it off the premises.

The point is, countries know the standards their prisoners will put up with and not riot & breakout. Why some accept severely shit standards is the question.

I suppose it's related to the standard of living & accomodation.
If you usually sleep on a bamboo mat with your siblings and use a bucket & ladle for washing, then a bare concrete floor shared with others is not so much worse.

That's a fair point, because most Thais with greater means than that would probably buy their way out of ending up there.
