Thais bicker and argue amongst themselves, but like the Bundys in Married with Children, any external threat sees them quickly close ranks. If you criticise another Thai to a Thai, for dangerous driving, corruption, daftness etc, even though you're right, something within the Thai you say it to will feel hurt and resent, as if you'd said it about them.
Some westerners act the same way, and become apologists for all things Thai. They're usually the type that abandoned the west for mental health reasons, and the type that feels smug about having handed over a sinsot at their Thai wedding because it helped to make them feel like a proud local.
