  • What % of Thai newly qualified drivers could pass a UK driving test?

I'd say about 0%, give or take +-0%

  • #2
That's like saying what Thai drivers are pussy footing white knucklers.

Not very many. They know how to drive efficiently. The flow of traffic is good. It's not possible to drive without paying attention. So there's less double tasking going on behind the wheel.

I love the way you are allowed to drive in Thailand. It's part of the culture shock. Growing up in a dull North American suburb then landing in BKK and seeing ppl being able to use their own judgement instead of driving in Orwells 1984 like they do in N.America

It makes me wonder why ppl like you have any connection to Thailand if you don't like most of it

Do they have any judgement? IMO many if not most drive as if they're the most important person on the road. It's a similar mindset to the way they'll shout to people sitting a metre away from them at their restaurant table and not give a toss that nobody else in the restaurant wants to hear their dull conversation. A complete lack of self awareness and consideration.

If all the 10 year olds of N America suddenly started driving their parents cars, you'd pretty much replicate the situation on Thailand's roads

Probably about the same % of UK drivers who pass that test the first time.
I visited TC a few times as a guest but had to stop. It is a sickening place. - Aging One

            No that's ****ing ridiculous.

You are just a pussy footing white knucker who is used to the dull slow roads in the west, that never force you to pay attention. So when you take this pussy footing to Thailand , you get run over.

              Apples & oranges.

They drive in Thailand, not the UK.

Btw, I feel safer in Thailand on my motosai.

Feeling and being are very different things.

If you feel safer in a backward land where a car driver pulling out in front of a motorbike is perfectly normal because they've superficially bought their way to higher social status, but the motorbike rider sounding their horn at the car driver is seen as insulting and taboo, then good on you

                  That rarely happens.

Good luck riding in the UK... oh, you don't? Neither would I.

It only has to happen once, and it's Game Over.

Try beeping your bike horn at various moronic Thai car/pickup drivers and see the percentage that have a face-loss dummy spit meltdown then either try to ram you or pull their onboard weapon of choice on you.

I have to wonder who is the more idiotic, the Thai driver twat who flashes his lights at people to tell them to get out of super-important his [you know, all that car loan money goes to the head] way, or the foolish farang who has deluded himself that Thai roads are fairly safe and misses them sooooo much because he's stuck in Europe.

The cold damp climate for most of the year is the worst thing about riding in the UK, and the main reason cars are preferred there. For safety, it's miles ahead.

I am so sorry you had sooo many bad experiences during your short spell in LOS, it's a miracle you're still alive after all - well done!

Same same. Peasant moron whose grandparents drove buffalo lives in a land where average incomes have quadrupled in recent decades, feels envious of those with four wheels instead of the two on his honda wave and the way they can cut him up with impunity, so takes out a loan and joins the millions of other reckless endebted chickenhead pickup truck drivers.
