A strange one is to ask something like "Will you come on Wednesday or Thursday? And they answer "yes" which is technically correct but clearly isn't what you wanted to know.

So it's a Thais fault that you can't speak Thai.

Definitely worth flinging pollidge at them over that.

You need one now, which what I meant.

Funny that, because I don't need a 30 days visa on arrival

Sometimes I think we tend to forget where we are. I remember dealing with a company in Bangkok and the employee apologised for his poor English. I replied it was I who should apologise for my poor Thai. Personally Arfa, I thought in the context of Thai speak her answer was perfectly acceptable.

It's not an English language issue. You could ask the same question in fluent Thai and get the same bs reply.

It's more an issue of inconsideration and infantile eagerness to assert their puny control, so instead of simply answering your question and letting you decide if you're interested, they'll tell you what they want to tell you, ask you what they want to know, and then try to shoehorn you into a sales pitch meeting at which they'll answer your question.

It's like going to Immigration for an extension. When you initially arrive in Thailand, everyone's friendly. But later if you want to stay, there are some of the oddest power mongers you have ever met. People whose behaviour, if you are still young, you have to think about carefully in order to figure them out.

Another example of the dopey haughty peasant-type communication skills, from a message linked to a facebook advert.

"Hi, I'd like to view the condo in this advert. It looks ideal"

"Ok sir, are you interested in this property for 12 months rent?"

                          "Yes"

"Ok sir, are you available to see it today at 4:00pm?"

"Sure, will you meet me there?"

"My colleague will meet you there, I'll pass her the details now and she will message you to confirm"

                          "ok"

                          ************
message from colleague 30 minutes later
                          ************

"Hello, you want to rent a condo?"

"Yes, I've made a viewing appointment with your colleague for a viewing with you. Please confirm it"

"What area or condo buildings are you interested in? What is your budget? How long do you want to rent for? When are you available for viewings?"

"I've already arranged to view a condo with your colleague. She said you'd contact me to confirm it"

                          ************
                          no response for 3 hours
                          ************

"Anyone there? I'm ready to go to the condo building now for the viewing but you haven't replied. This is stupid"

"You are very bad to use this word. We do not want to service impolite customer. Bye!"

A good point. I have memories of them treating foreigners like they're jailbirds applying for parole and that they're being incredibly kind to stamp your passport and won't if you don't grovel enough.

                            Haughty & oppressive.

Mahidol University have designed and are selling a map they've designed. Clearly designed by smart, intelligent students.

Students who can't even be arsed to reply to my inquiry to buy one.
