  • South African woman facing drug charges in Koh Samui

What does TC think of this case ? I think she is guilty as ****. But since she is a young woman, she is being white knighted like usual.

A 21 year old South African woman is locked in Thai prison after she allegedly signed for a package containing 250 grams of MDMA, an ingredient in ecstasy, according to a GoFundMe account. People say she’s innocent and have raised $2,966 USD to get her out. She’s apparently facing drug charges that carry life imprisonment.

Ashley Oosthuizen has been living in Thailand for more than 2 years. She worked as a teacher at an international school in Koh Samui, according to her Facebook page. The GoFundMe page says Ashley started Hot in the Biscuit, a breakfast and brunch restaurant on the island.

“She is well known in the community and liked by all who meet her. She is truly a wonderful human being with a heart of gold.”

While Ashley was at work, a package was delivered and addressed to her former boss. She signed for the package, but didn’t open it and set it aside. Later, the police raided the shop and searched the package, finding 250 grams of MDMA, according to the GoFundMe page.

Apparently, Ashley was arrested and charged with importation with intent to distribute a Category 1 narcotic. Importing a Category 1 substances carries a penalty of up to life imprisonment and a fine of 1 million to 5 million baht under Thailand’s Narcotics Act.

“The case against her is absolutely horrible – there is no evidence excepting the unopened package addressed to her former friend but because the package contained 250 grams of drug they are holding her as the one responsible.”

The GoFundMe page says Ashley was drug tested and came out negative. Her friends say they expect the case to be dismissed, but say Thai courts move “painfully slow” and they don’t want Ashley spending time behind bars waiting for a court date.

This woman and her clique probably started small. Import 2 grams here, 5 grams there. All anonymously with Bitcoin. Then 10 grams, then 50. And pretty soon, they have 250 grams of MDMA on the way. Something they could probably make a 100% mark up on and live off of for a year. Well, it was fun while it lasted.

^That's a fairly strange theory based on the information in that article.

Perhaps she signed for someone else's package not knowing what was in it.
I visited TC a few times as a guest but had to stop. It is a sickening place. - Aging One

That's the same excuse as carrying someone elses luggage at the airport.

It's 2020. Most drug dealing has moved online with dark markets and Bitcoin. It is common practice to use someone else's name and address

Her boyfriend is a known petty drug dealer.

Who knows. Why would anyone importing drugs by mail put their own name as the recipient? And why would anyone send drugs to someone who left long ago? It got intercepted and the police followed it to its destination.

but didn’t open it and set it aside.
I bet she emphasized that she set it aside. Sounds casual.
Possibly in case the cops busted in soon after, as is the case, and she could use that excuse ''It wasn't for me so why should I care about it'' kind of thing. Cops have seen it all before.

So where's the old boss in all this? Long gone? Are they looking for him?

21 is a bit young in a foreign country to have been a teacher then set up a restaurant. At 19 you have no experience of doing such a thing. Unless she came across an inheritance or lottery but then why teach?

This case has me thinking, why didn't they pay some young Thia patsy , to sign for it ? Find some 14 year old in the village. Give him $300 to sign for the delivery.

Whatever. These ppl are really young. They were living the dream in Koh Samui. If they managed to get away with thjs , they'd probably be set for another couple years.
