  • Durian or not to Durian, that is the question

I am a self-confessed durian lover . . . not the thick, fleshy, creamy variety - rather the smaller, orange-yellow, slightly bitter kind.

In Thailand I always had to ask for suk nim (soft and ripe) because the heathens cut down the fruit instead of waiting for it to fall of its own accord . . . ripe!

So, went to a Durian-Buffet after our dim sum lunch and . . . ate.

I like it, but it gives me some toxic gas.

      Yes.
      The riper the better.

        Great taste.

I often think they look like giant conkers.

          ^haha!

I don't believe I've ever tried Durian. I also had the pineapple on a stick in Thailand. I also tried the Jack Fruit which is good too.

Durian is similar to jackfruit, but much nicer - not as sweet.

Yes! The riper the better although I occasionally like a firmer, slightly greener one. Also tasted the red "Hutan/Kampong" one, ... same, same but..

I believe it has more calories than banana or mango.

Even if it has more calories it is probably great for you. Avocado is high in fat and has amany health benefits. Good fats are high in omega 3s.
