  • ★ Monks Gone Bad ★

I remember many years ago just after recently arriving in Thailand , sitting on a bus heading for chiang mai, sat next to me was a middle aged buddhist monk , its was my first encounter with a member of the what I now come to call the Saffron Gang . This Saffron Gang member proceeded over the next few hours to try and extract money from me , sell me a computer and recommend I visit his brothers karaoke joint .

Over the proceeding years the media attention relating to the ever increasing wrong doings of SG members has gone from a trickle to a flood . My Thai wife is a staunch follower and hefty donator to her local temple , but now the cat's finally out of the media bag , she's finally gone into the kitchen and smelt the coffee.

As the daily media stream of negative articles about yet another bad monk surfaced , this endless and relentless bad press started to take its toll on her faith and belief that monks could do no wrong , at first when I commented to her about another SG member being arrested on drugs charges , child rape or taking a trip on their own private aircraft to buy a new Gucci bag , or open yet another foreign bank account , she used her stock answer , may be one or two bad monks , but not many .

No there's more than one or two

monks are vermin, always walking around trying to scrounge food, I tell them get a job you bludging crunt, they make me sick preying on old ladies delusions of an after life.
Mind you whether Christian Buddhist or mussies, all religions are the same, they get money from stupid and deluded people.

I nearly had to recant my post made earlier this morning, when I walked to my local shop and saw monks loading some offerings into a samlor drivers vehicle, I immediately thought they had felt some compassion for the poor guy and have given him some booty, but no! on the way back I realized they were just using the samlor to carry their crap for them.
Lazy buggers were to tired to take there own shite them selves, so they are still lazy vermin.

Monks are the Asian version of a snake oil salesmen. They need to be banned in Thailand.

I learnt many years ago when my wife saw one on the roadside sheltering from a shower, Not to give them a lift because as soon as you drop them off at destination they will try to get a donation off you.

Some SG members having a nice day out before they get busy with the tiring work of filling Orange donation buckets . I think the people sat behind them are praying they don't get cornered for a donation

Hey it's real easy to point fingers: news flash: we're all human. So get over yourself and just be.

Take the good from the monks and be gentle to those who sway.
