  • Do you make things?

    I have a Gopro
I have a video light (but I still want the waterproof one)

I don't have a handle so I can use the camera as a handheld, and I'm far too tight with my money to buy a Gopro one at the prices they want. That and theirs won't hold the camera and a light without using adaptors.

I made my own. The Gopro version is about $50 in shops here, but a cheap security camera bracket cost less than two.
I removed the mounting base of the bracket, and stuffed it into a short bit of scrap plastic water pipe that cost me nothing.
I have to add a nice cover and a wrist strap (I have one from an old camera, so that'll cost zero), and I have a camera thread to Gopro mount adaptor I use with a selfie stick. It's easily moved from one to the other.
I now have my hand grip, one that'll take the camera and the video light, but was made for almost nothing.
(It will also screw to any camera's tripod mount, so I can use it with my Fujifilm HS55)

    So, do you make stuff?

    Great work!

I'm good when it comes to the ideas, what needs to be done to solve a problem and how it could be achieved. But a less capable person when it actually comes to making things, you are unlikely to find. I make Barry Chuckle look like a master craftsman! Shame, because I'd enjoy doing it if I could.

On a plus note though I'm not tight, the exact opposite in fact. I have an allergic reaction every time I find money in my bank account. The only cure is to spend it ASAP.

I'm an expert at making dirty dishes, empty gas tanks, small children cry, beer bottles empty, electric bills skyrocket, skanky bargirls feeling they've been cheated, clean places dirty, comfortable people uncomfortable.

There's more but I don't want to show off.

I looked at several action cams before I settled on the Gopro.
Some cheaper ones were just rubbish, so were dismissed quickly.
The Sony stuff works very well, but it's plus and minus when compared to the Gopro, so that lost out on price.

As for use, I mostly use it when I'm on the motorbike to get film of people delivering fridges on motorbikes, the same also applies to the car, where I've fixed a mount onto the dash.

I also use it to capture film when I need to be a little more covert, you'll see some stuff about beggars when I've finished and uploaded it.

I've used it many times whilst swimming, but have yet to go into the sea with it.

If I stick it on the larger of my selfie sticks, and put that on top of my monopod, I can get the camera up to 5 or 6 metres, allowing me to get well above a crowd, or film that crowd from up high.

A side, unintended use is to see what's going on in places I cant see into. Slap it on a selfie stick, and I can check inside drains, guttering, and pretty much anywhere else.
As the picture will stream directly to my mobile phone, I can see exactly what's wrong both live and recorded.

I find it really handy, but I'm a bit of a geek type users, rather than a fearless madman who jumps of cliffs, and I haven't jumped out of an aeroplane in years.
