  • Advice for transporting Dog into Bangkok via Excess Baggage

does anyone have any advice on importing a dog into bangkok? He is coming on my flight as excess baggage
I have everything sorted on the US export end but finding it hard to find info for the Bangkok end. Agents in US are charging a bomb (over 3400 USD) so trying to do it myself.
Is an import permit required ahead of time for bangkok?
IS an agent required and if so any contacts? Or since the dog is coming in as excess baggage do you just do the import at the airport? when the vet looks over him and his US paperwork?
Transport from airport advice would be brill to!! Any advice much appreciated!

My experience is 10 years old, but... for what its worth...

We lived in Los Angeles and flew China Airlines stopping in Taiwan (three hours) en route to Bangkok.

Dog had to have a vet's health release and all immunizations. A dog travel crate, meeting specific guidelines, was also required. We had to send the info on the dog's arrival to Taiwan via China Airlines a week before flying. Thailand required no advance notice, but a vet at the airport looked over the animal upon arrival.
The fees were nowhere near $3,000. More like $100 for the vet's health cert., $200 for the airfare, 300 baht for the vet in Bangkok, $75 for a dog crate.

I think somebody (an agent, who needs an agent?) is pulling your leg.

Once you are clear of the customs and immigration, pick up your (reserved) rental car and drive one-way to your destination. The plastic dog crates are clam-shell style and can be broken down to half their full size.
