  • Getting others on board

I miss the old TD days. Are any of you members of other forums where you can go an invite as many members from those other forums to join us over here? If you are up for it, comment below that you will do so.

Interesting thread...And an even more interesting challenge...In the sense of "what it takes" to generate a "successful" forum...

        Define success...Perspectives vary greatly...

Ask yourself what you want out of a forum...And, perhaps, what you can give to a forum...

What are your reasons for posting on a forum?...Why are you here?...Inevitably, "Who are you?"...

Language and communication, the heart of being human...Better from "a distance" sometimes, so you don't have to put up with "the wankers" face to face...Heh...

But without this contact, one would go more insane...Insanity being a relative concept, of course...

"I have my books...and my poetry to protect me" someone once wrote...

I've said before that I really like good literature and the written word, in general...That's almost enough for me, in itself....

The OP misses the old TD days...That's the way of life...Only thing constant is change, and all...But that sentiment regarding TD has been echoed continuously...And it's a great starting point...It will never be the same again, but some of that magic can be harnessed...

I remember starting on The Buffalo Board in 2011, I believe...So, I am not one of the old-timers...And I paid the price of admission many times over, the hard way...But that was also the price of freedom of speech...Though it was the only forum I had experienced, there was a sense that "anything goes"...And others claimed they liked it for that reason, as other forums were "impossible"...

Very new here, I am...I know some of you already from the good ship, TD...

Cheers...May the road rise up to meet you...

Rather impossible to replicate the good old days of TD - it will never return as it once was.

Attempting to recapture a time is a romantic notion but unrealistic.

TC can certainly call on everyone, everywhere, to join the place and contribute. The more the merrier.
But instead of copycat, why not retain your own niche and character - which, I believe was the intent from the start.

First off, it is not my forum. Secondly, I am not looking for a TD copycat, but rather a fun forum with contributing members, lots of interesting and fun threads and posts and the banter back and forth. Whatever the character and niche is, I do not care, as long it is heavy on Thailand content. Of course, there will never be another Eric with his amusing drunken rants and daily sarcasm and insults. But lets do something. I am banned from TD after contributing enough words to equate to at least a few novels. Not to mention lots of pics. I used to go out and take photos and do restaurant reviews with TD in mind. Then I get banned and blocked.

Interest is increasing as we witness more posters contributing ideas every day.

Absolutely there's no 'going back' because to use the old trite expression: "That was then and this is now" certainly applies.

If Thai politics were less boring and easier to understand (even natives here don't understand the convoluted political arena) more Farang input to those threads would take place. Generally it's business as usual in that area and won't change in our lifetimes.

IMO, domestic travel threads are the best bet.
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

                        Sounds decent.
Just have to get enough people on board consistently.

                          Who were you on TD?

The forum has lost its way. It wants the likes of antrobertson and drbob because they are friends with Nidhogg, a hideously boring lonely thaiophile cnut who is calling the shots these days and bans anyone not like him or that ridicules him.

I predict this forum being busier than TD by 2018 despite a large number of threads going missing. I'm sure there are less threads in this room than there were a month ago. A word of warning to whoever is behind that - keep zapping your members' contributions without explanation, and they'll all zap you.

I contributed a fair bit on TD. ENjoyed the forum, but stopped for before cited reasons. On TD was not unduly worried about stating views ond posting pictures. With the present political reality in Thailand need I or any poster be concerned about posting stuff that may find us in trouble with the Junta?

^ I guess that would depend on where the server is located, would it not? Keeping it offshore lets a forum host negate prosecution especially if the country where the server is hosted has strong freedom of speech legislation

On a personal level if you reside in LOS you can keep yourself anonymous by using a proxy server
