  • Formula 1 2018

The 2018 Formula 1 season is almost upon us.

First race in Melbourne tomorrow. I can't wait.

It looks like the Mercedes team won't be as dominant as in the previous seasons (unless they have been sandbagging again, which is what they are good at). Red Bull seems to have improved, they must have the best chassis, if only their power unit was as strong as Merc and Ferrari.

Big surprise is that the Haas team have made big improvements and maybe the best of the rest. I suppose having the latest spec Ferrari engine instead of the year old one, as in the last couple of seasons, makes a difference.

I look forward to see what Haas has for this season. Stewart/Haas Fords are dominating NASCAR thus far. Hurts as I am a Hendricks Chevrolet fan but they just haven't got their arms around the body change to the ZL1 Camaro.

I think Mercedes will be top team to beat. They have 2 top drivers and awesome hardware.

Another race today, this time from China. Very different weather conditions from a week ago in Bahrain.

Ferrari starting on front row, Mercedes takes the second row and Red Bull has the third row. Daniel Ricciardo has had no luck so far this season (other than bad luck that is), his team did a great job replacing his engine with only 3 minutes to spare before qualifying.

Love cars, bikes and all kind of racing. But for the last two years, I haven't been able to sit long enough in front of the TV to watch it unless there's a crash. Much prefer the Ausie V8 battles at the moment.

              Well...... what a race.

Some great overtakes by Daniel. Well deserved win.

Daniel Ricciardo won the Chinese GP after a spectacular charge in an epic race packed with controversy and overtakes galore.

Ricciardo surged from sixth to first in the space of ten laps after Red Bull opportunistically pitted for fresh tyres behind a Safety Car.

                Good move.

I just hate to see Red Bull win due to what happened in Thailand.

Another Formula1 race tonight. This time in Azabyj..., Azerbyj....., Azzibige......., Baku.

Vettel snatched another pole position last night, three in a row. Other grid positions:-

                  2. Hamilton
                  3. Bottas
                  4. Our man Ricciardo
                  5. Verstappen
                  6. Raikkonen
                  7. Ocon
                  8. Perez
                  9. Hulkenberg
                  10. Sainz

Looks like the Force Indias have cured their problems of late, and also the Renaults are performing better than in previous years. Although, having a better driver than the dud that they had for the last couple of years helps.

So, I'll be glued to the tele tonight (7pm Thai time) for the start of this race.

                  Go Daniel.

Another F1 Grand Prix has come around again this weekend, the Spanish Grand Prix.

                          Session times are as follows:
                          Practice 1 - 1600 (Thai time) Friday
                          Practice 2 - 2000
                          Practice 3 - 1700 Saturday
                          Qualifying - 2000
                          Race - 2010 Sunday.

It seems that the lead three teams are a lot closer this year, and that Mercedes won't have as easy a time of it this year.

Our man Daniel Ricciardo, or 'Big Nose' as he's affectionately known did an unbelievable job in winning the Monaco Grand Prix last Sunday (He had a serious loss of power for over half the race plus also lost 7th and 8th gear).

Even the whinging Pommy spoilt brat says that Daniel is a serious title contender. Big Nose said that he was an outside chance.

And yes, he drank champagne from his shoe again, but only because the crowd told him to.

The Canadian Grand Prix is on this weekend.

Here are the session times for Thai viewers.

                              Practice 1 - 2100 (Fri)
                              Practice 2 - 0100 (Sat)
                              Practice 3 - 2200 (Sat)
                              Qualifying - 0100 (Sun)
                              Race - 0110 (Mon)

Should be a good one. Top three teams are more equal this year. Many engine upgrades to come in this race, especially for Renault and Honda.
