God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

    RIP.

    A quote and soundbite legend.

Think I've gotten what movie we'll watch tonight. Cheers.

Hollywood Blacklisted Lee Ermey for Thought Crimes Against Barack Obama.
Ermey is also survived by a second-to-none performance in Full Metal Jacket that will be remembered long after the fascist monsters who blacklisted him are worm food."

I have nothing against Sgt Ermey, but he was just a bit player in some Hollywood reels and before that an 11 year seniority Marine who ended up a staff sergeant before resigning (medical discharge, although he had never been in the front line). His bit role in FMJ was fun, although in fairness I an well aware the average American (and marine) is not like that at all, and doesn't typically get shot dead by one of his own men. RIP.

My remaining Naval college colleagues that lasted the course have resigned their commissions now after some 40 years service, and do not expect a Hollywood role, or obituary. The only one left is Chief of the Navy (VADM), and will be gone soon.

He portrayed a Marine drill instructor PERFECTLY and it was far from a bit part. He basically stared it the first half of the movie. By FAR the best portrayal of a Marine Drill Instructor on film.

Sgt. Henson was my drill instructor in Boot Camp right before he pulled this stunt on his next platoon.

Wot, by getting shot by one of his own men ? Mebbe that's why you lose all your wars- fragging and all that (nah, low blow- bent politicians & politics really, although you are suckered by them every time). And yes, it was a bit part- albeit memorable.

Lee Ermey was a human, not just a military caricature- although, of course, that is how he was typecast by Hollywood. Then again, he was no actor. It may interest you to know why he joined the Marines- he was given a choice by the Judge, on his second youth conviction at the age of 17. Go to jail, or join the military.

FMJ is a British/ American war movie- shot entirely in the UK and directed by Stanley Kubrick, an American who moved to the UK in 1961 and spent the last 40 years of his life there, rarely leaving. If you don't realise by now the film is substantially a pisstake on American militaristic bullshit, I suppose the joke is on you. Sincerely- an ex-Naval officer.

It depends on how badly they need warm bodies. However, the Marines usually only takes volunteers. They did take some draftees during Vietnam though.

Someone needs to read the definition of "bit part" and stop doubling down on incorrect opinions. R. Lee Emmey was one of the STARS of Ful Metal Jacket according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Please supply a link. Don't think this is entirely correct.

When moi served his Vietnam service, many of the crew had been in trouble with the Law and the Judge(s) determined either they 'serve' or go to jail.

You certainly won't get into the defence force academy without a clean sheet, but otherwise I don't know. I'm not aware of there being an outright exclusion, and a quick skim of the current recruiting blurb reveals no such thing, but then again what they might do in practise these days I'm not privy to.

I've seen the defence forces make decent men out of some real nobheads, so frankly I hope there is no such exclusion. No reason a bloke can't improve himself, and put a miscreant youth behind him, if he's willing to give what it takes.

Well, not talking about Annapolis or West Point here but even ROTC accept 'blemished' records.

Compared to the US, we probably spend less than half the amount of our GDP on defence. Plus, these days (not when I was in!), ADF people are well paid- considerably more than their US equivalents. There are some American ex- servicemen serving now in the Australian defence forces believe it or not (+ Sth Africans & poms), and with the deal comes Australian citizenship. So I suppose the bottom line is they can afford to be more 'choosy'.

All gone soft & cushy if you ask me.

Read numerous comments on blogs that criminal behavior is sometimes excused for new recruits - just like the USA.

I need to reign that in, rather than the 'armed forces' I meant to say the Air Force (Bacardi tongue speaking.......yummm). Let me ask Bill at work today, he's the dude who served and told me that
