Next time to Samui though we'll be going out of Don Muang instead of driving. It's a two-day journey from here and now that we've done it once, reckon the time can be put to better use.
Here's the place we stayed on Chaweng Beach which is rather affordable re Samui terms:
Looks like a good trip, boonmee. Chaweng is a very busy beach. I was there for Christmas and New Years a few years ago. I stayed on the south end of Chaweng and had access to Chaweng Noi which is smaller and quieter than Chaweng. The place you stayed at looks quite nice and affordable.
Went in the afternoon for a swim and found out earlier in the day a boy had been killed by the strong riptide sadly. You have to be careful on these beaches at times.
Chaweng Noi
I took a trip to Ko Tarutao National Park from Samui which was the most stunning scenery I've ever seen. The view from the mountain I hiked was worth the long boat ride to get to it.
The water at Chaweng Noi where we stayed was extremely placid while we were there. Noted the drop to chest-height water was quite a bit 'out to sea' though. Good beach for inexperienced swimmers at least during the period we were there.
Not at all like Khao Lak where the surf was up.
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

It was unusually windy for December when I was there. I think we were getting the tail end of a typhoon at the time. It was shocking to hear a little boy drowned a few hours before I arrived on the beach. That did deter me from entering the water at all. The beach was gorgeous though. It was the first time on Samui for me, but I don't think I'll go back. There are too many other islands I want to visit.
How was Khao Lak?

Khao Lak was my favorite stop on this trip although the missus didn't especially care for the rough surf.
Many, many places to choose from along that stretch leading up to Phuket.
We stayed at a place called the Orchid Beach Resort which was very nice.
Can't beat the beach along there!
