  • Surin Hotels?

  • #2
Well the 2 you mention are by most accounts the 'best' in town but neither would rival The Ritz.
There are a few other cheaper alternatives scattered around town.
I have always found the Majestic to be adequate and situated in the centre of town.

Why not stay with the girl's family?

I have always stayed at the majestic - good enough for the price and it is central

there are hotels and resorts scattered around , but you need to have your own car

I stay at one of the two Majestic Mansions- same owner as the Majestic Hotel (who owns a large swathe of Surin), better located imo, and 500 bht per night- even includes a light breakfast of jok, and decent brewed coffee. Why pay more? Of the two, my usual is reached by going down to the (semi-derelict) end of Soi Kola, and turning right. Bargain.

Yes better located if your aim is to be near the nightlife. The Majestic itself is more central but more expensive with pool and similar room.
Over the last year or so a number of new hotels have opened around the 700 baht range with adequate facilities , i.e. room, but not so central, including but not limited to the following - Restel near the elephant stadium, one opposite Surin Hospital and another Bee hotel between Big C and Surin Hospital. These are just a few that come to mind while writing. There are others

As the sorry goes, I met a girl....

I ended up in Surin, stayed at one of the Majestic apartments with a horrible bed and noisy. Not that I will be returning to Surin every again, but are the beds that bad at both Majestic apartments? That Surin Isaan girl wanted a dowry so high, you'd though she was a Thai super model!

Never had a bad bed there, or a noise issue (yet). There are a few long stayers on monthly lets at the older Majestic Mansion (near the train station, & close to the rail tracks) who can probably get a bit rowdy when they're on the turps.
