Coming from a place in which eye contact is normal and acknowledging another human beings existence is excepted it has always been strange when you get the eye avoidance routine.
I've just got back from my run in the local country park. During my warm sunny 8pm 2 mile walk back two couples and two single people walked past me. Greetings were shared with me by all.
Thais in general avoid walking in the countryside, because they're scared of the strangers and peace & quiet there.
Isn't it mainly the guys that are just off the boat that think they (and other Caucasians) are some sort of novelty here, and thus should start greeting complete and utter strangers as they pass them in the street. Then get in their face when they are ignored lol.
Think you're right on that bit and it's usually the ones with scrubbers as wives too.
As a relative point here I recall taking my missus back to the States for a period one time and you know what? She never once greeted Asian females she'd see in passing at the mall or stores. And, they'd never approach her either just because she has black hair and Oriental features.
Heh...did take her to my VFW Club one time and the boys there all thought I'd brought back a Vietnamese War Bride!
99% of Westerners can't tell the difference between Asian people.
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.
I remember going into the Mall in Korat. Then I noticed they all looked like they All had been told they were to be shot in the morning. They would sit in groups professing loudly about what ailed them or trudged behind the wife and her family as she spends his lifes savings.
When I was working and living in Korat I saw the same at The Mall and Terminal 21 when I went there (which wasn't often). Sometimes I'd grab a bite in the food court and there seem to be a lot of miserable old guys by the looks on their faces. I seldom ever saw a smile. Even my wife noted the same and said they all look so angry or lost.
My mum made friends with a Chinese, Malaysian, Greek and Jamaican woman who were also parents at the school gates when she used to collect me. Their kids were all in my class.
Apart from the Jamaican, none of them could converse properly in english but they were friends for years
We all had bundles of fun.

True on this end as well BM. When my wife and I lived in the states my wife never greeted other Asian folks or felt compelled to say Hello. In fact many times when we would go shop at the Asian market the Chinese people or Vietnamese people at the check out would talk in their language to her and she would look at them and say I am Thai....Always made me laugh. As for westerners in general, They have no clue, to them they are all immigrants....
Yeah me too. Definitely like my space. Remain in contact with my circles of friends or acquaintances here and in the states. I have had a few expats say Hello to me out and about. I am polite, smile and say Hello back. Just normal life stuff.

Yip Nothings changed now. Korat has another mall now called Central which is more devoid of Farang. More expensive and aims for a higher class of clientele.

Now when I grew up we would never associate with prodies let alone blackies and Pakiss. Thank god the world has changed.
When I was young never saw a black guy and the first Asian refugees from Uganda where a novalty and as my uncle said at the time Us Irish where no longe rthe most resented immigrants in town.

Why would any westerner that can afford Central settle in isaan?

Most of the Ugandan Asians went to Leicester, the African Ugandans there still hate them with a passion, multicultural hate the Indians are preferable to the Blackies any day.
