Jesus, is there a code of honour amongst TEFLers at schools in Thailand whereby you help each other out in cases of financial hardship? Sounds more like a case of 'No honour amongst thieves' if all they can raise is 400Bt

Is it the fault of anyone else they don't have the correct amount of health insurance to cover themselves? And where are their families financial assistance in these medical emergencies?

One would think your friend would have an emergency fund of at least this amount to throw at lifes curve balls should the need arise

Who said I'm a tefler? And what about blame? Your point is fair, but if his colleagues were in the same boat, I'm positive they'd be hoping for some assistance. I said my friend is a teacher and his work colleagues can't, or won't scrape anything together for him. As for his insurance, yes, that's between him and his school, but as a friend, I ain't going to tell him that.

So if the story was reworded to a friend had an issue with his car and all his colleagues ignored the fact he needed a lift, but as I friend I offered to drop him off at work, that wouldn't be bragging. (In reference to BM) But because I've mentioned finances that is? Sounds a bit odd to me.

The constant putting down of teflers also sounds like one bragging they are a better person. Yes, there are those teflers. And there are those pensioners claiming off the state that have done F-all to earn it. Same same but different and all that.

And I ain't going to get into a tit-for-tat debate here.

Pensioners pay in for 35 years to get a pension, hardly f all, teflers are all too often sex pats on an extended holiday and off to the shag bars every weekend. If teflers were real teachers they would not be here earning bugger all for their futures. Look at this guy with the medical problem, not a pot to piss in, he and a lot like him should go home.

Concur. I've met very few who aren't whore mongers and/or alcoholics. Things aren't going well if that's the best you can come up with for a lifestyle.

Nothing wrong with sleeping with lots of beautiful ladies. As long as you wrap your Willie and don't fall in love, very few negatives about it.

Alcoholism is a very different thing. It is one of the worst drugs there are and it is almost impossible to come out unscathed.

Many tefling whore chasers are just winging it and enjoying their ride. When it does inevitably grind to a halt they reluctantly leave or commit suicide.

A good percentage have burned their bridges in their own countries, which is a bit silly.

I'd agree if they actually liked you. Who the fook wants lots of ladies that are waiting until paytime arrives so they can get back to their life.

Doesn't bother me anymore than a waitress or masseuse. Don't mind paying for good service as long as they have a pleasant attitude.

I think it's great for a person to do something like TEFLing for a couple years to see the world outside of Western confines, broaden ones horizons so to speak. A mature person would eventually see while the lifestyle is fun they are slowly falling behind others back home when comparing income, job experience, retirement savings & make plans to eventually head home

Tried it a couple of times in 2002 and felt like showering for an hour afterwards.

There's no comparison with bedding office girls & nurses who do it because they like you and actually want you inside them.

If you were here in Thailand during the currency crisis of '96/'97 there were heaps of office gals (nurses too I should imagine) who were earning income by employing the world's oldest profession.
