Any members doing Yoga or have done Yoga?

I'm learning the basic common postures on Youtube and will start with a private teacher next week.

I'm not very limber (but go to the gym regularly for lifting and cardio). I'm trying to get more limber before starting. I'm the lightest I've been in a few years and losing kilos have motivated me to try to be more healthy in general.

Anyone have any information or advice Yoga? How to approach?

Here is one example of common moves (there are many):

      That's good to hear, Jose.

Keep me posted. I'll do the same. My first session starts in a couple days.

Had a mate who started 15 years ago when he saw how limber his girlfriend was & wanted to emulate her. Not many guys doing it then but certainly more today. Heaps of free videos online, but I think it's a good idea to have some tuition from a yoga class initially

Attracts the modern day hippies & wannabe vegans. Then there's the female wack-jobs, those with Daddy issues or those wanting some sort of spiritual connection now they are adults (parents never took them to Church as a child) find the underlying Hindu/Buddhist aspects of Yoga 'enlightening' & they plan their Yoga camps over to Bali or India to focus on meditation & embracing mother Moon (that thing in the sky)

Too much weird shit for me to get involved. As for my mate who's now a pro at yoga I'm going to see him next when he travels here on one of his magic mushroom tours around the state

          Yes.

To me, it's another activity centered on mental and physical health.

Initial meeting with my instructor tomorrow.

I've seen this also - but these folks IMO, are "searching" for themselves or trying to find "something."

          Not the case with me.

For me, this is the same as playing a sport, going to the gym, learning a language, etc.

Good on your friend. I think he found something that he likes.

Attended half a dozen yoga lessons as a teenager during my ' esoteric studies ' phase.

Couldn't keep it up as the lure of the pint and chasing after improbable union with local skirt was too distracting for a young stud like moi.)

For me it set a life long pattern. Exercise of any kind continues to be an anathema to me as much as repeated vows to eat more fruit.

Mind you, my Chinese girlfriend at the time ( from Penang ) was as keen as mustard on it and if turned up early would make me wait outside her room at the nurses home while she finished her routine.

She was like that. When she liked something she tended to OD on it. She nearly put me off muff diving for life once I made the mistake of demonstrating my natural talent. Kept me at it a solid 30 minutes until I dreaded even making a start.

But this thread is about Yoga so I will not reminiss further except to say that bet all of you that try it will have given up by this time next year. Even without the torture I went through.

I imagine it would probably be hard to focus on the yoga and not imagine rooting the women there doing it with you.

Yes it's too slow & boring for active types who would rather be kicking a ball around. My mate used to counter this by smoking a cone & getting stoned just before doing a yoga session. I thought to myself if this is what you have to do to endure yoga I'm not going to bother

I'm not sure as to the validity of the sample size and/or methodology, but we can assume Yoga is a healthy endeavor.

Yoga could be as effective as a pill at cutting blood pressure, study suggests

Yoga could be as effective as a pill at cutting blood pressure, a study suggests.
The research found that volunteers with elevated levels saw improvements after doing just 15 minutes of the activity daily.
Around 12 million adults take drugs for high blood pressure, which is the single biggest trigger of heart disease and stroke.
The new research involved 60 volunteers with raised blood pressure.

Scientists said it is a similar drop as patients would see from taking a water pill, which are commonly given for high blood pressure.

Ashok Pandey, a 16-year-old who carried out the study as school project, said participants were either asked to do beginner yoga poses, relaxation, stretching or deep breathing.

After three months, the yoga group saw their blood pressure drop by 9.7 per cent.

Those doing simply deep breathing cut their readings by 7.1 per cent, while stretching reduced it by 4.5 per cent. However just setting aside time to relax had no effect.

Jose you have to go beyond the physical realm of the female & focus on the deeper underlying meaning of yoga. As such your first yoga partnered experience should be male orientated as shown in the pose below

To master this position you & your partner should both be in the nude. Only then will you have shown great understanding of the great yoga Swami teachings

Make sure a photo of the session is taken & posted here where we can study your technique

How is the yoga going, Boots?

I do yoga a few times a week at least. I just love how strong, flexible and relaxed it makes me. These past few summers, I did a month of fitness training in Thailand, where I did yoga everyday with a Thai teacher. We also had men in the class. Some men seem to struggle a bit with flexibility, but over time get better at it. I improved so much over a month of doing it everyday I couldn't believe it. I wish I could do yoga everyday now, but my gym doesn't offer it everyday and my schedule doesn't allow it either. Keep at it, it'll become easier.

Cheers for the info and thanks for the encouragement.

Yes, I don't expect quick results. It will take time for me.

Quick update on the Yoga lessons.

I like them and it's good for me.

I'll continue for quite some time.
