I heard some guy talking about "managing" a bar in Pattaya.... hes gonna be making 24k a month salary and 10% of the "earnings" so he says he should pull in around 90k a month.....I knew opening a bar was the right choice!

By the way, I don't think i'm saving the world or helping anyone. Just paying my bills....

I would be extremely surprised if I heard of a farang making 90 K a month managing a bar in Pattaya mate.

Not to mention to get a work permit is almost impossible for such a job unless your a qualified chef.

When I first came to Thailand I owned a bar on Koh Chang. Worst thing I ever did and not the best choice of work for a near beer free bloke. As for a work permit, according to a lawyer when I setup, you do not require a permit so long as you do not work behind the bar. Your limit is to check the takings. I'm not saying that is correct, but that's what I was told. She was a well known lawyer.

For the record, running the bar was pure hell from dodgy staff and an ex gf to having my new car stolen. The lawyer above solved the crime and personally took me to the station to collect the car and gave the thief a nasty slap on the hand and was banned from the Island at the time, permanently. As was my ex and her family. To a gun pointed at my head.

It was a very naive decision from me, and an experience I would not wish to do again!

Yeah, I know. But the guy telling me the story doesn't. He's over there right now on Soi 6. He's a sexpat TEFLer for sure. He loves the ladyboys and can't get enough. I'm sure we'll read about him turning up dead or see him get mugged by a bunch of ladyboys in the near future.
