  • K-Bank ATM Chip Card

After much nagging from Kasikorn bank, I finally exchanged my chip-less ATM card for one with a chip.

It's unbelievable how much paper this simple transaction generated. I counted ten sheets of paper about half way through the process, many of which required my signature. (Some were in English, some not.)

Although K-Bank kept telling me this would be free, I was charged 50 baht. I didn't bother to ask why. (I wouldn't have known how to ask why, anyway.)

Plus, there is a new hassle with the PIN. It is now six digits long and will probably have to be written down somewhere. And, when I used the new card to buy groceries, I had to enter the PIN. This is the first time I've had to enter a PIN for a debit card since I've lived in Thailand. Is this now standard procedure?

    Pretty much.

Got a new one around 18 months ago, and needed a 6 digit pin. I just repeated the last 2 digits of my old pin.

So say the old one was 6578, the new one was 657878.

Don't think I've ever needed to input the pin, and use it as a Debit Card almost every day at either Tops, Villa, Big or Tesco.

Bangkok Bank was trying to get me to upgrade my ATM card with them a while back but an honest teller-chick said the new card would only be good at Bangkok Bank ATM's.

      I declined.
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

Same here. The new cards are not Visa, but "Union Pay" which is not accepted at many places. I do see the Union Pay logo on display more often now, so maybe when we're forced to switch it won't be so bad.
