  • Princess Ubolratana is candidate for prime minister

The Thai Raksa Chart Party threw election politics into chaos on Friday when it nominated Princess Ubolratana as its candidate to be prime minister.
The party officially registered the elder sister of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn as news people pushed for vantage points at the Office of the Election Commission.
The move was the focus of election rumours on Thursday and overnight, but no media had been bold enough to mention her name or the royal connection until the actual event at 9am Friday.
Executives of the party arrived at the EC office at the Government Complex after announcing they would have only one candidate for prime minister - what they called "an important person outside the party".

As they checked in at the EC office, they showed an army of reporters a document confirming Princess Ubolratana as their candidate as prime minister.
The move is a serious blow to plans by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) to extend power via the March 24 elections.
PPRP officially registered Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as its prime ministerial candidate, but the nomination of Princess Ubolratana completely overwhelmed his nomination.
Thai Raksa Chart is a spinoff from the Pheu Thai Party, and both are friends of the fugitive former prime ministers Thaksin and Yingluck Shinawatra.
Princess Ubolratana has been seen with the Shinawatra brother and sister in public, notably at the most recent World Cup tournament in Russia.

Oh dear , oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Going to be a lot of mighty upset yellow shirts.

Wish I had shares in Kleenex plc.

Puts Prayuths machinations well and truly in the shade.

      Gonna be interesting.
Maybe the missus might vote in the election...
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

As expected , TV forum has gone into lock down mode. Hardly surprising given the number of members itching for a bun fight.

Certainly is an amazing bit of news. I bet Prayuth has never had a bad hair day like this before.

Absolutely impossible to say how this will pan out but wouldn't be surprised if an attempt is made to push back the election date. A contingency for which there is no plan.

Princess Ubolratana 'may not take political position'

The royal announcement published in the Royal Gazette was nationally televised after the princess was registered as the candidate for the prime minister for the Thai Raksa Chart Party with the Election Commission in the morning.

His Majesty made clear in the statement that although the princess had resigned from the royal family by law, she is still a royal family member by tradition. Princess Ubolratana still performed activities on behalf of the royal family, as well as being a beloved daughter of late King Bhumibol and a respected member of the royal family.

"Bringing a high-ranking member of the royal family to politics, in whatever manner, is an act in violation of the royal tradition and national culture and highly inappropriate," the announcement reads. : https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/pol...tical-position

                ' Pop goes the weasel.'

                Amazing Thailand .

Obviously, somebody has been on the blower and put the screws on.

Still, gave Prayuth and his cronies a wake up call.
Will have done them some damage in the eyes of the people.

But when the election is so clearly rigged to produce the right ( wing ) result probably won't make much difference.

Had to laugh - the Commie News Network (CNN) censored the news on the Princess last night.

Perhaps all parties concerned are working in conjunction...Save Prayuth, maybe...

So, if it's not the princess, who might it be?...

Perhaps, as part of the plan, they already know that, as well...

                    Any guesses?...

You called it - I reckon General Prayuth gets the nod.

Perhaps I am being lazy but TD seems to also have bottled out. Was a lively thread going but can't find it now.

                              • Thai princess disqualified from list of candidates for PM

Thai Princess Ubolratana was on Monday formally disqualified for running for prime minister, ending her brief and ill-fated political union with a party allied to the powerful Shinawatra clan, just days after a stern royal command rebuking her candidacy was issued by her brother, the king.

Uncertainty and conjecture have coursed through Thailand since Friday when the Thai Raksa Chart party made the explosive announcement of Princess Ubolratana, HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn's elder sister, as their candidate for premier after the March 24 election. Her tilt appeared to some to be a masterstroke of back-room dealings by Thaksin Shinawatra, the billionaire self-exiled ex-premier, just weeks before the poll. But just hours later it fell apart.

A royal command from the king put a pin in her unprecedented political aspirations, insisting the monarchy was above politics and describing his sister's candidacy as "highly inappropriate".

On Monday the Election Commission formally scratched her candidacy.

"The EC today has announced the name of candidates excluding Princess Ubolratana proposed by the Thai Raksa Chart party," it said in a statement, explaining "all royal family members are above politics."

Despite its brevity, the princess's foray into politics has electrified the political landscape of the country, as speculation over who wins and loses from her tilt ricochets across the kingdom.: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/deta...gnews/30363939
