  • Schools under the project are located in Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, and four districts in Songkhla -- namely Chana, Thepha, Na Thawi, and Saba Yoi.

In 2016, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered that a primary and secondary school in each district of these provinces be upgraded into a boarding school.
Sounds good, but what exactly will they be taught or indoctrinated?

      • "Boarding schools" for "abandoned children" - the perfect setup for totalitarian indoctrination of Junta Thai values.

        • The next election process should be an affair to remember.

My bets would be placed with another elitist manipulation of the works or another justified coup of similar name.

          Same as it ever was.

As most remain in a slight slumbered state.

Don't require special schooling to promote such indoctrination.
These activities are quite normal throughout everyday schooling facilities - on going for ages.

                  • PM scoffs at student bid to run him out of office

The government on Tuesday shrugged off efforts by the Student Union of Thailand (SUT) to drum up public support for the ouster of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Asked about the SUT's "Wing Lai Lung" (Run to Oust the Uncle) event, Gen Prayut said he would leave it to the public to decide which side to take.

"In the end, society will decide if this political move makes sense under the current peaceful political situation," said Gen Prayut, who has been nicknamed "Lung", or Uncle.

Asked about a counter-move to hold a similar event in his support, the premier quipped: "Run to catch up with me if you can."

A group of Gen Prayut's supporters on Tuesday announced on Facebook a "Wing Tam Lung" (Run to Follow the Uncle) event to back Gen Prayut.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon shrugged off the developments, saying merely that both groups were entitled to run.

"These running events are fine as long as their organisers do not violate the law on public gatherings," he said. Asked whether he would take part in either event, Gen Prawit joked: "How could I manage to join a run? These days I can't even walk steadily."

The Wing Lai Lung run also carries the English name of "Run Against the Dictator" and will be held on Jan 12 in central Bangkok.

The event made headlines when Thai Glico Co and Glico Frozen (Thailand) Co cleared up confusion over the run's logos on Monday by announcing they had nothing to do with the political movement and were always politically neutral. The companies urged organisers to withdraw their "Glico Running Man" logo, a doctored version of Glico's trademark, since it had resulted in widespread misunderstanding that Glico was sponsoring the event.

The Glico Running Man is an internationally recognised trademark that has lit up the Japan-based firm's Osaka headquarters for more than 80 years.

SUT chief strategist Tanawat Wongchai said on Facebook that Glico's trademark was not used by the campaign for commercial purposes or with any intent to damage Glico's reputation.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...-out-of-office

                          • Govt shoots down S44 panel motion

The opposition's motion to look into the impacts of orders issued under Section 44 of the interim charter was shot down on Wednesday when the government managed to secure a quorum and call a fresh vote.

The government remained determined to hold another vote despite an opposition threat to stage a walkout in protest if the government went ahead with it.

Deputy House Speaker Suchart Tancharoen called for a quorum check on Wednesday and cited House regulation No. 85 for the vote. He also called for an open ballot.

Pheu Thai Party MPs Chulapan Amornwiwat and Chonlanan Srikaew objected then led opposition MPs in leaving the chamber.

However, the vote still had the required quorum of 249 with a total of 261 MPs in attendance. It was reported that 11 MPs from the opposition bloc stayed behind in the chamber after the walk-out.

The motion on setting up the panel was rejected with 244 votes against. Five voted in favour, while another five abstained.

Jade Donavanik, a former adviser to the Constitutional Drafting Committee (CDC), said the vote lacked legitimacy because the opposition MPs did not take part.

He expressed concerns the government's move would likely set a bad precedent, saying it was possible that a quorum check would now be sought every time there is a tight vote.

According to Mr Jade, the opposition is likely to forward the issue to the Constitutional Court for a ruling.

The motion in question was proposed by Future Forward Party (FFP) secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul last Wednesday and the opposition edged the coalition camp by four votes -- 234-230 -- with two abstentions and one absentee. Six Democrat MPs voted for the motion.

Following the defeat, the government whip invoked parliament regulation No.85 to call for a new vote. The opposition staged a walk-out in protest, forcing the session to be adjourned due to a lack of a quorum.

Last Thursday, a second attempt at another vote collapsed after the House session failed to draw the required number of MPs. The government was prepared to push for a fresh vote when the House met yesterday.

Opposition chief whip Sutin Klungsang alleged that 20 opposition MPs were each offered "eight-digit bribes" by government lobbyists to ensure there was a quorum for a House meeting.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...4-panel-motion

                              • NEP 'waiting for an invitation'/Six-MP opposition party shows interest in joining coalition

The New Economics Party (NEP) has hinted that it is ready to join the coalition government, provided it receives an invitation from key figures.

In response to speculation that the six-MP party might abandon the opposition, NEP leader Manoon Siwapiromrat said that so far no phu yai or senior figure in the government had sent a formal invitation.

He explained that his party's aim is to propel the country forward, and if that can be achieved by working in sync with the government's plans, then the party is ready to join the coalition.

"I am still waiting. No one has called me yet. If the phu yai invite us, then the party will have to discuss the next step it should take," he said on Saturday. "We're currently in the opposition, but if we join the government, we can announce our stance clearly.

"If no cabinet seats are offered, the party will still push for its policies. Our stance will not change. We want to propel the economy forward."

Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta said on Friday that the NEP had been informally approached to join the coalition government.

Commenting on speculation that a cabinet reshuffle may be on the cards to pave the way for the NEP's entry, Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana, who is also deputy leader of the ruling Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), only said: "Let's wait and see."

However, Industry Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said he didn't believe a cabinet reshuffle would be necessary to bring NEP in as a coalition partner at this stage. He also pointed out that opposition MPs who stayed behind during last Wednesday's House session to make up a quorum for the meeting obviously want to push the country forward.

Though most opposition MPs walked out to prevent the House meeting from proceeding, 10 stayed behind. Thanks to the 10 MPs, the government was able to secure the quorum it required to call a vote to block the creation of a panel to scrutinise Section 44, the all-powerful tool of the former military junta. A total of 261 MPs were present, meeting the quorum of at least 249 MPs.

Of the 10 MPs from the opposition bloc who remained, three were from the main opposition Pheu Thai Party, two from Future Forward, four from the NEP and one from the Prachachart Party.

The opposition's motion to set up a panel to study the impact of orders issued under Section 44 of the interim charter was rejected with 244 votes against. Five voted in favour, while five abstained.

Deputy Prime Minister and Democrat Party leader Jurin Laksanawisit said the four Democrat MPs who refused to toe the coalition line and voted in support of the opposition motion would be asked to explain their reason, in writing, to party secretary-general Chalermchai Sri-on. Mr Chalermchai will then consider their punishment.

Mr Jurin declined to comment on speculation about the cabinet reshuffle, saying it should be left up to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and the PPRP to decide.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...ation#cxrecs_s

                              • Poor rating for Prayut after 6 months in office: poll

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has received a poor rating after six months as head of an elected government, according to the result of an opinion survey by the National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.

The poll was conducted on Nov 29-Dec 3 on 1,278 people aged 18 and over of various levels of education and occupations throughout the country to gauge their satisfaction with the performance of Gen Prayut and members of his cabinet since the election.

Asked to rate Gen Prayut's overall performance, 33.72% of respondents said he has fared poorly in handling the country's administration because his government has not been able to solve economic problems, the people have not been well taken care of, justice has been overlooked and actions have been taken only to protect his cronies. A further 25.98% said his performance has not been satisfactory in various fields.

On the positive side, only 8.92% said Gen Prayut has performed very well and his decisiveness, determination to work and honesty are beyond doubt, while 30.13% said he has performed fairly well, especially in the area of maintaining peace and order in the country.

The remaining 1.25% were not interested or had no comment.: https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand...-poll#cxrecs_s
