Yes: certain posters live for reaction to brighten their otherwise drab wretched lives. They know that the farther away from convention their posts, the more likely they are to spur outrage. If ignored, they gradually fade into another user name and start again. It's not much, but sometimes it can fill the gaps when real life disappoints.
