It certainly isn't Boyztown which attracts me.

I gues you are visiting the wife's family up north for the holidays?
Enjoy yourself.
Isn't the Beijing airport the crappiest. I remember being stuck there for eight hours overnight and nothing was open, not even Starbucks and it was freezing in there as they didn't have air conditioning. They said the way the airport was made they didn't need air cond.

Furthermore, the place is full of Yermans, which is hard to stomach.
Thank goodness for cultural diversity.
Could feed a family in the MooBan for the price of Somtam in a Thai restaurant, though.
wait until you come to Bangkok

Anyway, on the other side of the bridge one finds the Post Office and a few second-hand shops. Treated myself to 2 pairs of shoes and 3 pairs of trousers.
Then chanced upon half-priced lunch boxes at 7/11 - it was after 2 pm. Unfortunately, that also meant no alcohol sales. Had to visit a mom & pops shop for a beer.Originally posted by Ergenburgensmurgen;n186588

During the evening, we (I stayed under close observation) went to a seafood restaurant, an insider's tip. It's tucked away next to Family Mart on Ram Soi 60. The food was unpretentious and delicious.

They also have large Pla Taptim grilled in salt crust and an assortment of different style Somtam. We opted for the basic "Pala" version.

Half a kilo Kung Ping, Somtam for 2, Kanom Jean, assorted fresh salad vegetables, beer, water and a bucket of ice.
Total 450 Baht, including a generous tip.Originally posted by Ergenburgensmurgen;n186588

Onwards to the Mooban.
I won't tell the sordid details of my upset digestive system during the overnight bus ride. I blame the raw shrimps (Kung Chae Nam Pla) for it.
Not much has changed, except the hemp plants I mentioned in the other thread are gone now. The roots are a traditional medicine and soak in a flask of rice spirit in my studio.
Last 30 kilometers shared ride:
