On more than one flight, I remember drunken louts disturbing other passengers. One particularly egregious incident occurred on a BKK-BAH flight where a drunken Brit was removed from the aircraft in handcuffs on landing and taken into custody by Bahraini police.

Legislation Against Unruly Airplane Passengers Will Go Into Effect January 1

    By Alison Fox,Travel+Leisure

Horror stories of disorderly passengers seems like an all-too regular occurence in the world of airlines. But starting next month, nearly two dozen nations are looking to crack down on troublesome fliers around the world.

New legislation, ratified by 22 countries, aims to make it easier to punish unruly passengers, CNN reportedInternational Air Transport AssociationThe Independent, one incident per every 1,053 flights

Seen two incidents both on AMS-BKK flights and both involved duty free being opened and chugged shortly after take off. How about getting duty free out of the passenger compartment
I visited TC a few times as a guest but had to stop. It is a sickening place. - Aging One

That sounds reasonable. Remembering that the respective airlines make a commission/profit from these offered services.
Or just stop offering any type of alcohol on all flights - with meals or any other time.

That allows louts unable to hold their alcohol to take away one minor pleasure while flying under (usually) stressful conditions. As with so many other situations in life, the lowest common denominator determines the rules. I suggest strict limiting of on board alcohol sales (in economy) and duty free purchases picked up after landing. Also, passengers appearing to be inebriated should be stopped from boarding.

Why should everybody be made to abstain just because a few nutcases misbehave?
Sounds like PC gone wrong to me.

I doubt the noisy inebriated will be offended if they're called drunk. What might sober them up is the firm threat of wrist ties, gags and ultimately arrest.

My drinking doesn't pose a fire risk, nor does it produce toxic fumes.

...but then again, I might try to open the emergency door just for the fun of it.
Those long haul flights can be terribly boring...

Most reasonable folks might be in agreement with this logic.
Yet, in these cases, one has to factor in that all drunks aren't composed of the same disposition - needless to say, that all alcohol tolerance levels differ from person to person.

PC as it might be, the respective airlines would be making regulations to befit the collective instead of creating special rules for special individuals.

What of those individuals that don't have the best personal hygiene and reek to high heaven. Imagine a long-haul flight next to one of these cvnts.
We could only wonder of future PC pre-checks before boarding and the said repressing such activity would bring.

case in point: Gulf Air labor flights from Bahrain to any sub-continental destination: olfactory suppression is a necessity. Similarly, BKK-Gulf flights (both Emirates and Gulf Air) are infested with foul-smelling Euro drunks returning to work in the Gulf.
