  • Rural Life - life out in the sticks

I also used to live in the sticks, 60 km away from the provincial capital (the missus inherited a farm) for 6 years after 6 years in BKK, but now only part time, spend most of the time in one of Germany's major cities.

Did I enjoy it -oh yes!
Some romantic notion of the simple, secluded life (apart from the internet) had manifested itself in an initially thoroughly enjoyable way.

It did grind on me after a while though, Thai is mandatory as English speakers are as rare as a loaf of bread, or where I stay, Pasa Mueang is the required standard. Fortunately, I wasn't fully retired but had work to do. Still, alcohol consumption and associated habits reached a worrying level.

My advice: You really need something to provide activity & motivation to occupy yourself with and learn Thai the best you can if you haven't already.

Living in the Sticks beats the hell out of anything that smacks of the Big City.
God, the panic within the Dems, MSM, and left must be horrifying...realizing that Joe is really the best they've got.

I visited TC a few times as a guest but had to stop. It is a sickening place. - Aging One

The trip doesn't need to be daily or even weekly. Plan it as something to look forward to every month or so: stop for lunch on the way or at a scenic spot, count the dead animals by the wayside, enjoy the antics of drunk motorbike drivers, etc.

                ^ That's right.
I do the journey once a fortnight and make a day strolling around & trying different eateries for lunch.

the stereotype low class scouser/manc showing us around his wifes village and shack he's paid for is not the norm like many cynics assume. He's also paid for her sons motorbike.

That stereotype must have had a start somewhere...did you finally sell the shack?

Yeah, I sold it to Dave from Liverpool

His wife Noi and her teenage son Somchai will have a great life, for a few months
He said he might have to do some teaching soon

My sojourns into the nearest 'big' city usually culminate with a trip to the local Robinson Mall where either I'm feasting on the eye candy or ensconced in one of the 'high end' eateries there.

...they must be hard to locate in a Robinson mall...

"High end" means it's more expensive than a kilo overripe mangoes.
