  • Should I pay a lawyer to do my wife's tourist visa or do it ourselves?

Does using a lawyer to do the paperwork for my wife's tourist visa increase her chances of approval?

  • #2
Just in making sure the paperwork is filled out correctly. An attorney can't go with her for the interview. To be honest the last time my wife went for a visa interview at the US Embassy in Bangkok, I was not able to accompany her for the interview either.

Some guarantee they do. I would be skeptical. However you will pay dearly for it, upwards $1000usd. I highly encourage you do it on your own. I enjoyed learning the process and felt better knowing it and not just signing forms to a paralegal. Upon arrival in the US she may be interviewed again. She needs to be prepared for that. Does your wife speak English reasonably well? As Jao Tin stated you cannot sit through the interview with her. In fact you cant even go into the building. Same applies here in the US at immigration. I went through both processes. My Gf was held at SFO Immigration with 3 others. Not to scare you but one gal was rejected and sent back. My GF was in room and her answers to questions did not align to her Visa questions at the US Consulate in BKK. This gal traveled alone to meet her husband. Sadly for him he could not follow her through as he was waiting at the gate. I recommend traveling with her.

Your GF was held at SFO Immigration as in locked up?

Or her interview was held there?

There used to be a guy in Empire Tower that charged 12,000 baht plus government fees. No guarantees, just some interview coaching and filled out the paperwork. I will try to dig up his name.

            Jao,

She was held up at SFO Immigration and interviewed. They frequently pull arrivals from foreign countries and re-interview them to make sure their information is accurate and they can answer all their questions. She was delayed over an hour. This is why I mentioned to be prepared that she may get pulled into a screening room. According to my GF, they had her application up on the screen and asked her questions to see if it was all in order. Immigration is getting tighter. In the end you have to prove she has a reason to return to Thailand.

With that said I have heard a way to assist with a Visa is to be married at the US consulate. This way the marriage is recognized in the US. A Thai marriage does not really fly. I have no direct proof of that but have heard from quite a few.
