The sublime message Yingluck will be sending the international community if she fails to return to Thailand from her European trip is not that she is guilty of anything per se but that she doesn't trust the system, and, far worse, that she no longer feels Thailand is worth bothering with.

If the elected government give up on this place then foreigners should only regard it as somewhere for brief holidays and work-related secondment. The present government is already handing down that message anyway.

The BIG (Boys In Green) allowed Yingluck to leave the country for a temporary trip and everyone with a bit of grey matter already expect that she won't come back, no matter how many times she said she will return to face the music. I think she has left the building through the backdoor, the Thai way, avoiding problems/confrontation. Everybody happy, isn't that what they want?

          Graft buster officially charges Yingluck

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) submitted its criminal case file against former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra regarding the rice pledging scheme to the Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) on Tuesday.

The NACC accused Yingluck of malfeasance in office under Article 157 of the Criminal Code for her gross negligence in overseeing the scheme causing enormous 500 billion baht loss to the state coffers.

OAG spokesperson Mrs Santanee Disayabutr said the OAG would set up a special team led by its deputy chief to look into all the charges and the evidences.

She said if all evidence are proved, it could then proceed the prosecution in 30 days.

Asked if the prosecution would be obstructed when the accused is still abroad, she assured that the prosecution will go ahead although she does not show up, reasoning that at this stage, it is not necessary yet for her to appear as having her current permanent residence known is enough.

Don't see any allegations of graft in the charges. Policy corruption/ gross incompetence perhaps. But that would make barry and dubya (among many others) Lifers.

Yingluck won't serve any time. Would be disaster for the junta domestically and internationally if she was jailed. Last thing they need is a Thai Aung San Suu Kyi.

Seems they're headed down that road. The swap of Thailand and Myanmar is fascinating.

This is the only reason I can see for Yingluck to return. The junta clearly want her to keep out of Thailand and I think they have a huge problem if she returns.

This is ridiculous . . . it was government scheme, not her personal one. If leaders are now simply subject to criminal prosecution when their government fails in one way or another then the whole idea of having leadership is . . . ridiculous.
Did she benefit personally from this scheme? Did she enable others to benefit and did she benefit from their benefitting . . . etc etc

I'm quietly confident that if the new trains don't turn a profit in the first 2 weeks of operation, the entire upper echelon of the junta will happily face the firing squad. Are you not?

I have little doubt that audited accounts will show a resounding profit....if the auditors know what's good for them.

                            _________

Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra will return to Thailand to fight charges of dereliction of duty in the rice-pledging scheme, her lawyer repeated Tuesday as the likelihood of charges moved a step closer.

                            Snip

In the meantime, Ms Yingluck has the right to continue to call more witnesses in her defense.

Twas moi but only in a manner of speaking. Jailed she's a martyr to the cause. She stays out of Thailand she is just another convicted criminal on the run. The junta's only hope.
